Still rather listen to the Pistols personally, although as I've said elsewhere, I do think 700 Elves is tailor made for The Fall...

Robyn Hitchcock's also a fan - he praised the Span's use of drone, which I must admit I'd never actually noticed.

Yes, er, folks, in the current number of Mojo magazine that most beloved icon of Englishness John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, reveals his love of The Span, revealing that one of the most wondeful things I have ever done is to meet Maddy Prior.

A good issue otherwise too, a fine cover disk featuring some choice cuts from Sham 69, ATV, The Angelic Upstarts, ATV, Generatuion X et al; a splendidly entertaining feature in which indvidual members of the Sex Pistols tell their own stories; a fine piece on Zappa, Beafheart & the story behind Trout Mask Replica; and some choice pics of that other icon of Englishness, Mark E Smith, one of which is on a page facing one of the Gongmeister himself, Daevid Allen, who at 70 might be on the verge of receiving some long overdue acknowledgement for his crucial contribution to music these past 45 years! Daevid is a treasure, creating some of the inspirational, challenging but ultimately beautiful music you're ever likely to hear. If you need the proof, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGEa--QVxUo and let it carry you away...
