Subject: RE: Endangered Performers List From: Genie Date: 26 Jun 08 - 12:47 AM I think as we learned (again) from recent unexpected and premature departures such as those of Tim Russert, George Carlin, and others more tied to the music scene, we are all "endangered." Any performer (folk or otherwise) could leave us at any moment. Let's enjoy the music while we can. (Right, Kendall?) Genie |

Subject: RE: Endangered Performers List From: pdq Date: 25 Jun 08 - 08:03 PM Small point, I suppose, but Jon Stewart is a stage name for a stand-up comic born Jonathan S. Leibowitz. John Stewart is the former Kingston Trio singer and fine songwriter. He wrote so many good songs that we will be looking through them for decades to come. |

T'wasn't my intent, but I know all about the "road to hell," etc. |

Subject: Endangered Performers List From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 25 Jun 08 - 06:19 PM A friend recently heard from Nick Reynolds, founding member of the Kingston Trio, who lives near me, in Coronado, CA. He is confined to a wheelchair and has, apparently suffered a stroke and has some difficulty with his speech. His old mate, Bob Shane, also has health issues and carries oxygen with him. He is now living in the Phoenix area. Travis Edmonson, of Bud & Travis fame, also in the Phoenix vicinity, suffered an aneurism-caused stroke some years ago which prevented him from playing guitar. If you ever heard him sing and play, 'tis a sad loss! Are there others who you know to be in "endangered" or disabled status? Also, we have recently lost Utah Phillips, Jon Stewart and, farther back, Lou Gottlieb, of the Limeliters. Quite a list, and I know there are many others fondly remembered from earlier times. Who would you add to your personal list of the "gone, but not forgotten?" And, they certainly don't have to be household names. |
