Great to hear, Ken.

Remember, if you do locate lyrics in translation, would you please make sure you post them to Mudcat?

Thank you.

Baile da camacha is a folk dance from Madeira whose popularity spread to Portugal and to Brazil, where it is known as Balinho da Madeira.
I believe that the words are rather new, one set by Silvestre Fonseca. It is on several cds but lyrics not found.

There are videos of the dance on Youtube.

I just went to Google and am now getting results for the song as you spelled it. I know I'm just a short distance from finding some lyrics.

THANK YOU!!!!

Ken, I know nothing about Portuguese. However, there was a Mudcatter who used to post from Brazil. Perhaps if he sees this thread . . . .

Key here is to keep the thread visible for a few weeks. I'll tend to that.

No offence taken, and thank you so much for the reply. I am starting to transliterate the lyrics but this will very difficult. The Portuguese language seems to have some peculiar sounds in it that make it very different from Spanish.

Do you speak Portuguese? Would you like a MP3 copy of the song to see if it sounds familiar? I'm certain that this song is a traditional folk ballad but I just need some confirmation. I can make a small sound clip and email it to you or perhaps post it here.

Thanks again!

No offence, but the correct title is

"Baile da Camacha",

but knowing that has turned up no lyric translations from P into E.

Is anyone familar with the sone "Baile De Camacha"? I am looking for a transliteration of the Portuguese lyrics.

I have a recording of this song as an MP3 but not knowing Portuguese, I can not do this on my own. If you are interested, I'll send it to you so you can have a listen.

This song was part of my dad's collection of folk-music. He passed on last December. Any help would be appreciated.

I know a folk dance of Portuguese origin called "Baile De Comacho". I am trying to find any lyrics for this dance, which I do have a recording of, but which I am unable to translate ot transliterate. I have an MP3 of this song if anyone is interested to hear it. BTW, this song was part of a rather large collection of world-wide folk-music that belonged to my dad before he passed on. He was a folk-dance teacher back in the Bronx. Any help would be appreciated.
