Subject: RE: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Jul 08 - 08:26 PM "Come Write Me Down"? What's inappropriate with that? It's always struck me as right on the button. We had it at our wedding, and that was 44 years ago in July, and we're still together. |
Subject: RE: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: Marion Date: 20 Jul 08 - 07:18 AM Hello Ian. Here's a song I wrote for a friend's wedding: Marjorie's Wedding. It's mostly the tune to the O'Carolan waltz "Fanny Power", with a line of melody borrowed from Ash Grove. If you're interested I can sing it to you over the phone or something. However, it's written from the point of view of one of the couple rather than a best man's wishes. I'll try to think of something good from a third party point of view. Marion |
Subject: RE: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 20 Jul 08 - 06:41 AM Thanks so far, folks. The few trad. songs that seem, at first, appropriate, such as Come Write Me Down, really are not, for reasons that become obvious when one hears the words, so I am grateful for songwriter suggestions. Any more, anyone? |

Subject: RE: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: quokka Date: 19 Jul 08 - 01:02 PM is it allowed to be humorous? If so there is a song by Australian band 'Skyhooks' called 'All My Friends Are Getting Married'. Cheers, Quokka |
Subject: RE: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: Waddon Pete Date: 19 Jul 08 - 11:35 AM Hello Ian, My 6d worth...write your own "set to a well-known tune" in the style of the old broadsheets. Garnet Rogers "All that is" was written for a friend's wedding if that helps. A lovely song! Best wishes, Peter |
Subject: Best Man's song - ideas, please From: GUEST,Ian cookieless Date: 19 Jul 08 - 11:31 AM In 2 weeks I am the best man at a great musical friend's wedding. As part of my best man's speech, I'd like to sing a song to wish them all the very best. (Almost everything the groom and I do together is musical.) Most trad. songs about weddings seem to be tragic and therefore inappropriate, as do nearly all the love songs. So any ideas, please, for an appropriate best man's (traditional?) 'good wishes for your marriage' song? |
