Like many others, I met Bruce's parents a couple of times at his regular Sunday gig at Tipitina's. Their love for him and their unwavering support for his musical career was evident. I'm sure that Bruce and his family are going through a devastating time right now. Heartfelt condolences from the west coast.

We can't tell you how much your heartfelt messages have meant. Mr. Albert and Miss Jean were truly special people -- -- to everyone. There is now a huge void in our family -- -- we are now a family of 5, not 7.

Bruce is coping as well as he can -- -- he was extremely close with both of his parents. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for quite a while. . .

With the weather down here, we are just today (Sunday) able to make arrangements. They will be waked in New Orleans, where they knew and loved so many, at Schoen on Canal Street, 6-9 PM on Wednesday, with a prayer service at 9 PM.    Thursday we will take them to Marksville for a visitation at Hixson Brothers and burial at St. Joseph's Cemetary #1, where all of Bruce's grandparents are buried.

I went to the fais do do at Tipitina's the Sunday before last, and had a long talk with Albert and Jennie, about the Adaigrepont ancestral home in Moulin, France. They were such lovely people. It was the first time I had met them though I have known Bruce for years. Both Albert and Jennie made a big impression on me, being so friendly, and we spoke in French about the old times. I am more sad than I can say about this tragic accident and loss of life. Neti Vaan

Hope you can find the strenght that you need to go throught this. I had a radio show here in Shediac NB Canada for 10 years and I played cajun music every week. I met Bruce in Bouctouche last year and I was so happy. Our friend Edgar called us Monday night to tell us about your lost, and it's just like if we had lost one of ours. Cajun musician Bruce Daigrepont's parents killed in car accident while evacuating from Hurricane Gustav

2 evacuees die in wreck near Warren

Hurricane Gustav claimed two victims in the Warren County area Sunday afternoon — well before the storm made landfall in Louisiana — when an elderly Metairie couple's car rolled off U.S. 61 North just south of Onward in Sharkey County.

Albert Daigrepont Jr., 86, and his wife, Jennie Rita, 77, both died of head and chest trauma from their injuries, said Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey.

Mrs. Daigrepont was pronounced dead at the scene by Sharkey County Coroner Angela Eason about 3 p.m.

Mr. Daigrepont survived the impact, but was taken to River Region Medical Center and pronounced dead by Huskey at 6:30 p.m.

"The vehicle had apparently run off the road, and when (Mr. Daigrepont) tried to pull the car back onto the road it started to roll," said Eason, who added both were ejected from the vehicle and did not appear to be wearing seat belts.

The wreck occurred on U.S. 61 North near the intersection of Low Water Bridge Road, said Eason.

The Daigreponts were less than 10 miles away from their destination in Cary, said Robert Martin, a Rolling Fork resident whose sister is married to the Daigrepont's son, Bruce. Martin said the Daigreponts left Metairie around 9 a.m. Sunday along with their son and daughter, who were making the trip with their families in other vehicles.

The Daigreponts, 725 Hesper Ave., had been residents of Metairie for more than 50 years, Martin said. He remembered the couple as caring, loving grandparents who enjoyed spending their retired years in the company of family and friends.

"Bruce and my sister, Sue, have three little girls that they spent most all of their time with," Martin said, noting his sister's family lived near the Daigreponts in Metairie. "They were really friendly people. It's a tragedy, they had been traveling all day and were only about five minutes from where they were headed."

Huskey said Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg was holding the bodies until they can be taken to Metairie for services.
