Subject: RE: Electro-acoustic guitar with built-in fx From: oggie Date: 07 Sep 08 - 05:33 PM For what it's worth I've played a number of the Variax guitars. The bass is fun but no where like as good looking as a bass that costs that much should be, the electrics are OK, the sounds are good, but they're not as good as instruments as a guitar that price should be (very middle of the road in design and execution). The acoustic I don't relly rate, you have a permanent conflict between the sound coming out from the guitar and the sound from your amp (it happens on the others but you don't hear it as much, as when you play any pure electric). Likewise the retune option is a gimmick, the guitar in your hand is playing standard tuning, the amplified is DADGAD, not good to get your head round. Lastly it doesn't feel like an acoustic guitar, the body is too small and the neck too thin. One review I saw described it as the perfect guitar for he lead singer to pose with and do the least damage. Steve |

Subject: RE: Electro-acoustic guitar with built-in fx From: oggie Date: 06 Sep 08 - 06:56 AM The Variax range mimics different guitars. There was a synth guitar with the module hidden in the body but I can't find any current info on it. After that you're into split pickups and a Roland GR-20 guitar synth unit or similar. Steve |
