Lol now that is the spirit lol That reminds me of a story I read about a guy in the military that was trying out for the Seals. The instructions were to jump into a very large pool carrying 2 30 pound weights swim a while drop the weights surface for air then return to pick up the weights until they swam the whole length. This one guy walks up and dives in. Everyone kept waiting for him to surface but he never did. He walked on the bottom the whole length of the pool with the weights without surfacing for air. He got out of the pool and the Drill Sgt. jumped him for showing off. The guy told him that he was not meaning to show off he just didn't know how to swim lol. The Sgt told him "Hell boy I can teach you to swim. I cant teach to not give up." lol

nope.. I have my hands full as it is.... I knew a guy that added one bass string to the rest of the 6 on a wide neck... sounded full in a noisy bar, nothing fancy.... but there's some wicked 7 string pickers around these days.... Lenny was an innovator in this stlye as well......

I knew another picker, out in the country... he used to give lessons to the locals... new student, older cat, showed up with a guitar, but it only had 2 strings... buddy thought it was a joke.. he said, "Where's the other strings?"... the student was serious, saying "Well, show me somethin, on these two and if I get good enough I'll get more strings !"...... true story from Calumet, Quebec...

Let's do it brother lol. I was reading yesterday about am octobass that Chet Atkins had. He modified a guitar to where it had 2 bass strings for the big E and A. Have you ever messed with one of those? It sounds pretty cool to me.

thanks for that heads-up,, have yourself a blast Jayto, as usual..

maybe next time... we could work out a routine... you do the thumb work, I'll use my long right-hand nails... and for the left hand , you take the bass strings and I'll take what's left... then we only need one 'axe'....

Hi everyone. I thought I would let everybody know that the International Thumbpicking Guitar Festival and Contest is being held this weekend in Greenville Kentucky. There will be all kinds of music there not just thumbpicking. It is held every year at Powderly Park in Greenville Kentucky and always has some of the best guitarists you are ever gonna find. The contest has 3 categories Traditional, Contemporary, and Open. The open competition is any stylebut cannot be thumbstyle (no self sustained rhythm). There are concerts and open mic jam sessions where anyone is welcome to play or sing. It starts Friday evening with the announcements of the Thumbpicking hall of fame inductees and then progresses to an open jam. The contests start at 9am Saturday morning. There is a concert Saturday night but I am not sure who is on the bill. Sunday there is a picnic and open mic jam session. If anyone is close and interested in coming everyone would be happy to have you. Let me know if anyone is interested I would really enjoy meeting some mudcatters there. Any questions let me know. The weather is supposed to be really nice. The last I heard it is suppose to be around 79F and sunny. Greenville Ky. is about 120 miles north of Nashville Tn. Well hope to see some of you there.
