They are required for some stores and on-line distributors. They are a damn good idea, if you're going to sell a bunch over a period of time. |

Subject: Tech: Barcodes for independant releases (UK) From: Spleen Cringe Date: 24 Sep 08 - 04:45 PM What do who have released their own CDs think? Is it worth going for? Do bar codes make that much difference? GS1 UK, the bar code issuing agency charge £99 plus VAT to join and then £99 plus VAT a year membership. For a small-scale indie release is this worth doing? I've also heard that CD Baby will sell you a bar code for considerably less if they are carrying your CD, but is this ok for UK releases or does it just apply to US releases? Is there anyone in the UK who will do similar? If anyone who has experience of or informed/semi-formed opinions on this issue, I'd be keen to hear your views. Thanking you in hopeful anticipation of a deluge of posts to this scintillating and riveting thread... Spleeno (Currently listening to Barry Dransfield's self-titled solo album, if anyone's interested. Marvellous stuff...) |
