Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stay All Night From: cnd Date: 18 Oct 23 - 08:30 AM Somehow, this is one of only two threads discussing the famous Western Swing song; the other has the lyrics: click Now, I have a question. I've known this song for a long time and thought nothing of the lyrics, but this morning as I was listening, I had a realization. "The number on the gate is the number on the door / And the next house over is a grocery store" -- is there some implication I'm missing? Most houses will have their street number in multiple places, and as a rule, they're going to be the same number. The only thing I can really think of is that it's implying the house he's in is not a hotel/motel just for hooking up. Probably nothing all that deep to it, just a thought. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stay All Night From: PHJim Date: 19 Oct 23 - 01:48 PM Stay All Night - Tommy Duncan & Bob Wills You ought to see my blue eyed Sally She lives a way down on Shinbone Alley The number on the gate is the number on the door And the next house over is the grocery store Stay all night and stay a little longer Dance all night and dance a little longer Pull off your coat, throw it in the corner I don't see why you don't stay a little longer You can't go home if you're going by the mill 'Cause the bridge washed out at the bottom of the hill The big creek's up and the little creek's level I plow my corn with a double shovel Stay all night . . . Sitting in the window, singing to my love The slop bucket fell from the window up above The mule and the grasshopper, eating ice cream Mule got sick and they laid him on the beam Stay all night . . . |

From: DeeDeeEsq@aol.com Date: 12 Jun 99 - 08:42 PM I'm looking for the lyrics to an old song which I believe to be entitled "Stay All Night" - it begins with "Stay all night, stay a little longer; Dance all night, dance a little longer.......Why don't you just stay a little longer?"
