This month's song swap topic at our folk music club is "Good Times and Good Ole Times" . I've selected several songs to present including "The Travelling Show" which I am learning from Joan Sprung's "Ballads and Butterflies" album, (1976) published by Folk Legacy. In the notes Joan said her stepfather learned it as a boy from "Old Man" Henry's troupe of actors who toured upstate NY around 1910. Does anyone know anything more about this lovely and nostalgic song? The Chorus goes: "'Way back then it was good to be alive, hold on to your dreams til the day is done, turn and touch the memories of a golden time, then they hitched up their horses and the show's all gone."
