Just checked and he isn't in "A Step in Time", Emma Lile's book on Welsh folk dance. I'll keep looking.

Am I right in thinking that Adelina Patti was the one who made 'Home Sweet Home' famous?

I don't know of Charlie Smith but, once I get my jets un-lagged, I'll ask a few people ...

Emma Lile at the Welsh History Museum might know but I think she's still on maternity leave. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

A friend was telling me last week, that her (great?) grandfather was a well-known clog dancer in South Wales, over 100 years ago.

His name was Charlie Smith, and she understands that he performed in front of Madame Patti.

Has anyone heard of him?

Note: Adelina Patti (February 10, 1843 - September 27, 1919) was one of the most highly regarded Opera singers of the 19th century. Giuseppe Verdi was not alone in calling her the greatest singer he ever heard. She lived (and died) in South Wales.
