Subject: RealPlayer and RealProducer From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jun 99 - 02:36 PM Well, they've been trying hard to sell their stuff that they charge for, that you have to read through a lot of garbage to get to the free stuff. Click here to get past the garbage and get to where you download the free RealPlayer. Note that even on this page, there's an $11.95 player you have to get past. It took me a lot of looking, but I finally found the free version of RealProducer G2 (for recording) - Click here. Note that the free version produces recordings that can bew played only on RealPlayer G2. You have to pay the fee ($149, I think) to get an edition of RealProducer G2 that will record files playable on earlier players. Basicall, though, for both the player and the recorder, you download a file, makig sure it's placed in a separate dwonload directory, all by itself. Then you find the file and click on it, and it unzips and installs itself. It's an executable file, so all you have to do is click on it to get it to install. Come to think of it, maybe it IS easier to install than the Digital Tradition. I've been bugging Dick to come up with a Win95 version of the database since people don't know DOS any more. There is a guy in England who has an experimental program called Donkeyworks that does the trick, but it only works with the soon-to-be-outdated October 98 version of the database. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Help! How do I load this Audioplayer thingy? From: annamill Date: 25 Jun 99 - 02:11 PM Thanks Joe. Actually I meant RealPlayer, but you surmised that. I did follow the instructions, I thought. I didn't go in and click on it. I'll try that tomorrow. annap |

Subject: RE: Help! How do I load this Audioplayer thingy? From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Jun 99 - 02:05 PM Gee, Anna, it's hard to figure out how to help fy. First of all, you should uninstall any previous versions you have of RealPlayer, I think - but I think the installation program is smart enough to tell you that as you go through the process. Also, it helps to shut down most other programs when you're installing anything. Those are the two big things to do to solve problems when you're installing something (sometimes, though, when you're installing an upgrade, you have to have the previous edition on your hard drive, so read the setup instructions. Also, make sure you download the version of the program that fits your computer and operating system - read the system requirements carefully. For RealPlayer and RealProducer (for recording), I just downloaded the files into a separate download directory. they're *.exe files, so I just clicked on the files and they installed themselves. No Problem. In fact, I've had fewer problems with the "Real" products than I've had with most other stuff I use. Once you have the program installed, you should be able to double-click on any RealMedia file, and it should play. The only thing easier to install is the Digital Tradition. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Help! How do I load this Audioplayer thingy? From: annamill Date: 25 Jun 99 - 12:49 PM Hi, When I tried to listen to Rick Monday I was told to download a free Audi Player. Ok, so I went to the site, downloaded the software, which took about 1/2 hour. (I missed Rick's Show). When I got home last night, I went right to my computer to hear Katlaughings song done by Bert. I still didn't have the AudiPlayer! When I loaded it, they asked me where I wanted to put it and the default was my desktop. Also, the program may be zipped, but I'm not sure. Is it unzipped when it downloads? Can someone help? I'm only a poor mini-system programer. These damn PC have me crazy? I could probably program one, but I'm having a hell of a time running it. Thank you, annap :-(
