Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: JudyB Date: 19 Oct 09 - 06:55 PM I know what you mean, Linn.... And while I don't exactly have proof that some part of Barry's spirit was there - we all know I can't sing loud enough to get on top of a chorus like we had on Roll the Old Chariot, but on that last chorus, I was up there - and it didn't even feel as if I was pushing. Thank you, Barry - once again. |

Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Bat Goddess Date: 18 Oct 09 - 06:36 PM "Shanty In Old Shanty Town" was Jerry Bryant's wry twist on the song. I also sang "Nine Times a Night" before Judy and Charlie arrived. Kept expecting Barry to walk in... Linn |

Subject: RE: Oct. Shanty Session @ The Press Room (NH From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Oct 09 - 01:38 PM It was a good gathering at the Press Room yesterday, a combination of sadness in recognition of Barry Finn no longer walking this earth but also a happier realization that we carry him and his songs within us. I was asked to lead "Yangtse River Shanty" and I choose to do it in a way that was closer to how I put the song together than the way Barry reworked it in the shape of a more traditional shanty. I'm not sure I could have done Barry's version yesterday, even though I know it well! There were folks there that I hadn't seen in years, all singing songs in tribute to Barry. They all did a great job! I had no intention of leading "Lee Fore Brace" but that's what came out when I tried to lead "The Outside Track." I guess "someone" just wanted to hear the lines again: So I'll drink me drink and sing me song, And none will know but me, That a lump of me heart went down with Dan That night in the Cape Horn sea.
