Subject: Paul's 'Wedding Song' guitar From: Dan Schatz Date: 02 Dec 09 - 12:36 PM This has gotten some attention in another thread, but folks might not know to look there. About 40 years ago, Noel Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary ran into Nick Apollonio at a gathering in Maine. Nick ended up building a 12 string guitar, named Sebastian, for Paul. The sound of the guitar inspired Paul to write "The Wedding Song" (you know the one - "Wherever two or more are gathered in his name / There is love,"), which became one of the classic songs of the sixties and a favorite at, you guessed it, weddings. Here's Paul playing the song on another Apollonio guitar. The original Sebastian was one of Nick's earliest works - a deceptively simple design and fantastic sound, but not durable enough to take life on the road. Well, Nick has now restored the original body (with the original label, inscribed to "Paul"), given it a new neck, updated the instrument to his current standards of playability and durability (including an easily adjustable neck) and is selling it on E-bay, with a ridiculously low starting bid. I'd bid on it myself if I didn't already have three Apollonio instruments. This historic guitar deserves a good home. Dan |
