Les Barker has set wonderful words to e.g.

- Rossini's "Wilhelm Tell Ouverture" set in an Indian restaurant as the "William Patel Ouverture", complete with poppadoms, vindaloo and Hindu-be-du,
- Tchaikovsky's "1812 Ouverture" as "Blessed are the Peacemakers",
- Ravel's "Bolero" as, er, the "Bolero"

Bill Caddick's "John o' Dreams" uses a theme from Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony.

That one works. Usually the result just sounds tacky because you're leaving out so much of the original.

I'd kinda like to hear a barbershop group doing the "statue" theme from Messiaen's "Turangalila", though.

are there any re-makes of classical music in bluegrass style?

Rob Paravonian's "Pachelbel Rant" (I think you can see it on YouTube) complains the overuse of the chord sequence in so much music. I got to thinking though....

If you could set words to a piece of Classical Music, which piece of music would you use, which Composer, and why? If you have already done it then which words have you used for the music?

To date I have not done this but I would be interested in your ideas and thoughts as to what you would do if you did.

There must be some wonderful operatic arias that could be adapted but let's stick with 'plain' orchestral music for now :-)
