Subject: RE: REQ: England be glad From: Stewie Date: 29 Aug 01 - 06:44 PM Hi John, As I said, I had an album with it on, but it has gone walking. The one I still have is self-titled (SKL 5264 Decca 1976). The only overlap with above CD track listing is 'Pastime with good company'. --Stewie. |

Subject: Lyr Add: ENGLAND BE GLAD From: John P Date: 29 Aug 01 - 10:07 AM England Be Glad Anonymous Englad be glad, pluck up thy lusty heart! Help now thy king, thy king, and take his part, And take his part! Against the Frenchman in the field to fight In the quarrel of the Church and in the right. With spears and shields on goodly horses light, Bows and arrows to put them all to flight, To put them all to flight: Help now thy king, thy king, and take his part, And take his part! |

Subject: RE: REQ: England be glad From: IanC Date: 28 Aug 01 - 05:48 AM Other than that above, the only information I have for it at present is that it is attributed to John Southcott (at present, I have forgotten where the attribution comes from). I haven't found any lyrics on the web, but I'll go and poke round my books for a day or two to see if I come up with anything.
Cheers! |

Subject: RE: REQ: England be glad From: Stewie Date: 27 Aug 01 - 05:09 AM Hi Wolfgang, I saw you resurrected this thread in the unanswered queries thread. I used to have this on a City Waites album, but I can't find it. However, I had a trawl around the net for City Waites and came up with reference to a recent City Waites album that includes. I shall certainly order the CD because the City Waites are a wonderful folk/early music fusion group and the track listing is very attractive. The record company is ARC (UK): EUCD1616 THE ENGLISH TRADITION - 400 Years of Music & Song - From Medieval Times to Queen Victoria performed by The City Waites. The City Waites are specialists in English traditional music. The group regularly collaborate with the Royal National Theatre and Globe Theatre in the UK and have performed music in the recent film "Elizabeth". This album presents music from Medieval times to Queen Victoria and is played on authentic period instruments such as hurdy-gurdy, harpsichord, lute, fiddle, rebec, bass viol, cittern, bagpipes, etc. TRACKLISTING - 1.
