Subject: RE: if search not working edit front page From: open mike Date: 02 Mar 10 - 02:26 AM i searched for "bird" and "bird watch" because i wanted to add a message about an eagle nest camera, but no results were found in the forum, so i started a new thread. i would have rather had it go together with other bird info that has been posted... there were lots of bird songs found in the DT, but nothing in the forum |
Subject: RE: if search not working edit front page From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Mar 10 - 01:07 AM Hi, Conrad - We figured the Google Custom Search in the search box, would be sufficient - it's right there on almost every Mudcat page, but I think some people haven't found it yet. Many haven't figured out the Filter, either. If you put too much on a Web page, it gets "busy" and nobody can find anything. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: if search not working edit front page From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 01 Mar 10 - 08:28 AM I am enjoying searching via the google method site: etc.Perhaps a form could be designed to pre format this and send it direct to google. IN the old times of yore I could probably have done this in a minute or so. I think you already have a google search form it would just say search the Mundcat via google. Come to think of it doesnt google provide these sort of things to paste into the html. Conrad |
Subject: RE: if search not working edit front page From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Feb 10 - 10:29 PM Well, the best search tool is the Filter, which is smack dab center of the Forum Menu page. But your suggestion is a good one, Conrad, since we have had perennial problems with our main search engine. Maybe a link to our FAQ Search Hints from the FAQ would be a good thing to put on the "Search Results" page. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: if search not working edit front page From: Joe_F Date: 28 Feb 10 - 10:17 PM And as long as the Old Advanced Forum Search remains the most important search tool, it would be nice if it didn't take 3 clicks to get to it. |
Subject: BS: if search not working edit front page From: *#1 PEASANT* Date: 28 Feb 10 - 03:47 PM If forum search is not working please note that on main mudcat page lest folks think that there are no results. Additionally possibly add a line about how to search mudcat via google Conrad |
