Subject: RE: Free Indian Music Concerts, Liverpool From: Fred McCormick Date: 02 Jun 10 - 04:57 AM Sorry folks. Just read the small print. The Debashish Bhattacharya concert is not free. Admission is £8-00, which strikes me as a small price to pay for a musician of such reputation. To obtain tickets ring Milapfest on 0151 291 3949, or email info@milapfest.com . |

Subject: RE: Free Indian Music Concerts, Liverpool From: Fred McCormick Date: 31 May 10 - 10:06 AM Brother, do I know the feeling. In fact anyone living in Manchester or London would find it useful to visit the site, since Milap hosts concerts in both cities. |

Subject: Free Indian Music Concerts, Liverpool From: Fred McCormick Date: 31 May 10 - 05:38 AM Milap is an Indian arts organisation which hosts free monthly concerts of Indian classical music. The concerts are run under the name of Music For The Mind and Soul. The calibre of the artists can be gauged by the the fact that the guest last Saturday was Rakesh Chaurasia (nephew of the legendary Hariprasad Chaurasia) on flute, along with Bhavani Shankar on Pakhawaj and Vijay Ghate on Tabla. You can't do much better than that for a free concert. Concerts are usually on the last Saturday of each month, starting at 13-00 hrs and, after several changes of venue, the event seems to have finally settled in the superbly refurbished Hope Theatre, The Capstone Building, 17 Shaw Street, Liverpool L6 1HP. The next concert though represents a break with routine, in that it is scheduled for Saturday 12th June, 19-30 hrs. The guest artist will be Debashish Bhattacharya on slide guitar, Subashish Bhattacharya, tabla, Chitrangana Reshwal, Pakhawaj, Charu Hariharan on Mridangam. For more information visit Milapfest , but here's the blurb from their website. "With a Grammy nomination and BBC World Music Award under his belt, Indian slide guitarist Pandit (master) Debashish Bhattacharya's remarkable virtuosity is winning international critical acclaim. O Shakuntala! is a sublime interpretation of the immortal Indian masterpiece of eternal love and features three slide guitars designed and developed by Debashish himself. A musical adventure fusing two great Indian musical traditions – Carnatic music from the South of India and Hindustani music from the North – it celebrates love in all its many wonderful rasas (emotions). Debashish is accompanied by the wonderful Subashish Bhattacharya (also his brother) on Tabla, Chitrangana Reshwal on Pakhawaj and Charu Hariharan on Mridangam and Ganjira." "Debashish Bhattacharya will also be performing at the Sage Gateshead on June 13th 2010." |
