Subject: RE: Paul Openshaw at The Boot Inn, Weymouth From: GUEST,Paul Openshaw Date: 18 Jun 11 - 09:48 AM DADGAD became a means to an end for me when I started playing guitar accompaniment to jigs and reels. Most of this can involve hopping between the keys of D and G. The standard tuned guitar chord of D is particularly weak as a strummed chord. It could be argued that G to leaves a lot to be desired. DADGAD is not the answer to everything, but for me it unlocks a lot of doors and enables me to explore the whole fretboard. If anyone is interested, I will be at Roger's Rant in Milborne St Andrew, Dorset on the 8th, 9th and 10th July. Lots of sessions, dancing, workshops etc and all for worthy causes! |

Aah used to sing wi' Paul in 'Take The Shilling' many years ago and recorded some of his songs on 'Darling Good Ale' before his move to Portland made it ower difficult to gig as a duo. A canny talent and nee mistake! |

Subject: RE: Paul Openshaw at The Boot Inn, Weymouth From: Big Al Whittle Date: 14 Jun 11 - 06:48 PM Ah! Thanks Kitty! No the date for this distinguished event is July 5th - this year! Actually The Boot is the oldest pub in Weymouth and is worth visiting in its own right. But Paul really is something else as a guitarist. his technique is different. I'm no slouch at the guitar, but I've sat through Pauls seminar on DADGAD three times (at three different folk festivals now) - and I'm buggered if I can get it. |

Subject: Paul Openshaw at The Boot Inn, Weymouth From: Big Al Whittle Date: 14 Jun 11 - 03:31 PM Guitarists! If you think you've seen everything - every so often a guitarist shows his hands and he's got something different to offer. Paul Openshaw is just such a man. he plays nearly everything in DADGAD. And when I say everything - i don't mean just songs in D and G. Paul has perfected a mindblowing method of playing in every key - using DADGAD. He's on of these guys who really has ripped up the rule book. Also, it has to be said, he is a songwriter of wit and originality. I'm doing a couple of songs each half - support act. Hers the details:- The Boot Inn, High West St, Weymouth DT4 8JH Paul J Openshaw -- "In his own write" In aid of Diabetes UK and in memory of Amy Nesbitt, song writer Paul J Openshaw, will be presenting "in his own write". Following recent performances, the songs and stories have been described as "wry, funny, poignant and incisive by turns". Songs such as Mr & Mrs Grumbly-Bottom are "very original and extremely entertaining" and ranging from "sensitive to highly amusing". Support act is Big Al Whittle. Great entertainment for a great cause. From 9.00pm. Free admission. |
