Subject: RE: Remember Vera Johnson? From: GUEST,Barbara Cooper Date: 06 Feb 20 - 06:40 PM I still remember when Vera came to Port Alberni on Vancouver Island in the late 1970's - early 80's. I bought her recording of Bald Eagle and these days often sing the chorus to the title song! Vera holds a warm spot in my heart even though I only met her that once. Thanks to all who share memories here. |

Subject: RE: Remember Vera Johnson? From: GUEST,roderick warner Date: 24 Jun 11 - 05:41 PM I knew Vera when she was in the UK - met her in London when I started busking in the west end in 1966 - she used to hang around with the crowd in the Porcupine, Don Partridge, Alan Young, Pat Keene, Megan Aikman, Paris Nat Schaffer and all the others. She was older than most of us but had a great spirit and was great fun to be with. I spent a lot of time talking with her and she was very stimulating company. I read her memoirs sometime back, when I was doing some research for a project and subsequently found out that she had died - a sad loss but a full life, it seems... |
Subject: RE: Remeber Vera Johnson? From: Bob the Postman Date: 24 Jun 11 - 04:44 PM I for one would be very interested to read any reminiscences of Vera and her life and times on the UK folk club circuit. Here's a link to the other Vera Johnson thread. I never saw her perform but I well remember when the authorities in Vancouver banned hippies from the plaza in front of the court house--the subject of Vera's song "The Fountain". |
