Subject: RE: Heritage Folk Group From: GUEST,Edgware Date: 27 Sep 12 - 11:47 AM The Folkweave Program I mentioned before had two songs by Heritage: The Burning of Auckendorn & The Shannon and the Chesapeake (please pardon any mispelt words) I'm fairly certain that the singer of the first song had a scottish accent. English Heritage was a group formed in the sixties which concentrated entirely on English songs and dance music - I don't think it was very long lived, and in any case it definitely was not them on Folkweave. |
Subject: RE: Heritage Folk Group From: GUEST,kenny Date: 27 Sep 12 - 08:02 AM Jack Beck does occasionally post here. He could tell you if he sees this. You wouldn't mix the 2 groups up - the Scottish band played selections of instrumentals as well as including fine singing from Jack, nearly all of their material was Scottish. I have heard of - but never heard - the English "Heritage", and seem to remember them as specialising in 3-part harmony, as mentioned above. So - if the songs in the Broadcast are in Scots = Scottish "Heritage" 3-part harmony singing, probably English songs = English "Heritage" unless it was neither ! |
Subject: RE: Heritage Folk Group From: GUEST,Erich Date: 27 Sep 12 - 06:39 AM As far as I know there were 2 groups called "Heritage". One was a Scottish group with 2 recordings from the 80's ("Some Rantin' Rovin' Fun" and "When the Dancin' it'a a done"). Released on No Bad Record (NBLP 1 and NBLP 2). The other was an English harmony singing group with one LP from 1982 ("Living by the Air", Plant Life PLR 040. There also was an English Dance Band called "Heritage Band". I'm sorry I have no idea about the band-members and musicians. |
Subject: RE: Heritage Folk Group From: G-Force Date: 27 Sep 12 - 06:33 AM I'm pretty sure I can remember a (presumably English) four-piece a capella harmony group called Heritage back in the late 70's or early 80's. Three males and a female. All unaccompanied. |
Subject: Heritage Folk Group From: GUEST,Edgware Date: 27 Sep 12 - 06:10 AM I have just discovered and read through the story of the Scottish(Dunfermline based)Folk Group, Heritage. The article was prepared and written by Jack Beck. In his narrative he states the group was formed in 1975. My question concerns a Fokweave broadcast in December 1974 which include songs from a folk group identified as the Heritage. Is this the same collection of singers and musicians or was there an earlier group with the same name? |
