Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: _gargoyle Date: 01 Dec 99 - 11:59 PM Joe...I will check the book...it is in the garage...thanks for the thread lead...the German version is delightful....along with the translation....unfortunately, the verses in my head are the same as those posted.
BTW...perhaps it is the holiday spirit...but this place is ringing, singing, dinging of the the DT days this week. |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: Rex Date: 01 Dec 99 - 01:03 PM Mark, in answer to your inquiry, nope, nope, nope and nope. So I guess this isn't your book. Dang! now I want one too. Thanks to Joe for explaining the grade marking is done with stars. Even so, there are no stars on the binding or anywhere else on the cover. Also as this was printed in 1971 where many of the above are from the 20's, this book may be more like a "Making Music Your Own - Greatest Hits". Rex |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Dec 99 - 01:26 AM The grade level on my books is marked by stars on the binding. The third-grade book I have isn't the same as Gargoyle's. Mine is titled Music Now and Long Ago. Gargoyle, can you check your book and see if you have any verses of "Doctor Ironbeard" that haven't been posted in this thread? Thanks. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: _gargoyle Date: 30 Nov 99 - 11:34 PM I know precisely the book you are looking for...the 3rd grade level includes "Dummy Line" and "Doctor Iron-Beard." They are EXCELLENT....but I know only the 1957-8 versions....and won't sell mine.
The anitique book exchange ABEbooks.com Lists 49 copies of that particular book...I have ordered books from Austrailia and England through their connections....and while the 6 week wait for a book's arrival from "down under" seemed interminal...it was a copy that probably never could have found otherwise.
HAVE FUN and enjoy. |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: raredance Date: 30 Nov 99 - 11:14 PM I have the Silver Burdett "Progressive Music Series Book One" which says it is for the second and third grades. This one was published in 1914 and 1920 and I swear really that I did not use it myself. rich r |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: Mark Date: 30 Nov 99 - 02:56 PM Rex, Could you tell me if the following songs are in your copy (edition?) of the book?: "Come and Hear the German Band", "Petruska", "Over the Sea to Skye" and "Don Gato". From my limited memory that's what I remember in the edition used for grade 4. Thanks in advance. |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: Rex Date: 30 Nov 99 - 01:52 PM Well I have a book by that title. Yep Silver Burdett pub. too. 1971. I don't want to sell it but maybe can help you to track another down. Trouble is, how can you tell what grade it is for? Joe mentions book numbers too and I see inside there is a list of contributors for books 3-6 but I don't see a number identifying this one. It has about 250 pages and at one time was my only source for the words to "the Zebra Dun". Rex |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: katlaughing Date: 30 Nov 99 - 01:50 AM Hi, Mark. You might want to take a look at what a search just putting in Silver Burdett produced at Bibliofind. I saw a #3 available and also a 1985 Centennial Music Book by Elizabeth Cook, one of the originals listed on the other book, so maybe they've republished the whole series? ON THE OTHER HAND, a quick search HERE at BOOKFINDER shows several copies of the one you are looking for. Have fun, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: Help: Looking for School Music Book From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Nov 99 - 11:46 PM Darn. I've got three and five, Mark, but not four. The ones I have are Music In Our Country (Grade 5), and Music Now and Long Ago (Grade 3). Not sure this is the series you're talking about, though - these were published in 1958, and don't show a series title. They're both excellent, nicely-illustrated collections of some really good songs. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Looking for School Music Book From: Mark (pincus@sprynet.com) Date: 29 Nov 99 - 11:10 PM I'm looking for a copy of a grade school music text book used in the late 60's to early 70's. It was published by Silver Burdett and was part of a series called "Making Music on Your Own". I think I'm looking for the 4th grade edition, but will know for sure if you can tell me about a few songs in the book. If anyone thinks they have or know where I can get a copy of this book please email me. I've exhausted my search in the local used book stores. |
