"Cat" and "Spaw": Thanks for the tips. I'll check into these and let you know how I do. Like I said, I'm not into wood working. Thanks again

Kits are available through Musicmakers Kits and Lark in the Morning (Songbird, I think). Both are fine, but you can find some finished instruments for 50 to 100 more. Most of the kits I've seen have made very decent dulcimers. But, a good kit will probably run you $150 plus....and a decent 12/11 can be had for $250.

You might want to try the plans in the Phil Mason/Mel Bay book as they are really simple and involve only very basic woodworking skills and tools.

Lemme know if I can help in some way.

My sister has a great catalogue with them; it even had bowed psaltery kits. When I talk to her this week, I'll get the name and phone number, etc. for you.

I am wanting to try to learn Hammered Dulcimer. However, I do not have an instrument. "spaw" gave me some great tips and makers to try. I am not too handy with tools and I wondered: does anyone know of somebody that makes a GOOD hammered Dulcimer kit. I might be able to do this but I doubt if I could make one from scratch. Appreciate any help anyone can give.
