Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Friday Night Blues by Stuart MacGregor From: GUEST,Dom Date: 01 Nov 18 - 06:15 PM Thanks Jim. I got the Lyrics from my uncle. My family knew Stuart when they lived in Edinburgh in the 1950's and 1960's. It may not have been recorded. Although I wish it had. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Friday Night Blues by Stuart MacGregor From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Nov 18 - 12:04 PM Regarding Stuart MacGregor: information about him is pretty sparse on the internet. I assume you’re talking about this guy: http://www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poetry/poets/stuart-macgregor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_MacGregor I can’t find any evidence that he wrote a song (or poem) called “Friday Night Blues.” I’m not saying he didn’t—I just can’t find any trace of it. And I’m pretty tenacious and good at finding things. I’d be interested in knowing where you got the lyrics you posted. Has this song been recorded? By whom? When? What album? Any information you can give might be helpful. Spotify has lots more recordings called “Friday Night Blues.” Spotify only identifies performers, not songwriters. If I had the patience to listen to all of them, I might find something, but I don’t, at least not right now. This Google search result seems to indicate that the MacGregor’s book The Myrtle and the Ivy contains the phrase “Friday night blues” but maybe not any other lyrics from your song. |

Subject: Lyr Add: FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES (Lynn Jackson) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Nov 18 - 01:25 AM Another one. FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES Words and music by Linville Keith Jackson. As recorded by Lynn Jackson on “Where Daddy Lived” (2004) Sittin’ at a table down to Betty Lou's I had a few drinks and I was feelin’ loose The jukebox playin’ my favorite song I can’t sit still; I got my dancin’ boots on Gotta get out on the floor to shake the Friday night blues All of a sudden from the corner of my eye Caught a glimpse of an angel as she walked by A drink in her hand, lookin’ so sweet I thought to myself: this one’s for me I gotta get her out on the floor to shake the Friday night blues The Friday night blues and deep in my soul(?) I ask her her to dance and now we’re lettin’ go The way she holds onto me blows my mind As we two-step around the floor one more time I might fall in love tonight If I play my cards just right Friday night blues will be just a memory There’s one thing I forgot all about The ring on her finger, I found out, Belongs to that big ol’ boy behind the bar What was I thinkin’? Have I gone too far? I better get out o’ here before I run out o’ luck Friday night blues and deep in my soul(?) I ask her her to dance and now we’re lettin’ go The way she holds onto me blows my mind As we two-step around the floor one more time Don’t guess I'll fall in love tonight Even if I play my cards just right I can’t find no way to shake the Friday night blues Said I can’t find no way to shake the Friday night blues Said I can’t find no way to shake the Friday night blues |

Subject: Lyr Add: FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES (Al Parsons) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Nov 18 - 12:55 AM Another nice one. I’m narrowing it down! FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES Words and music by Al Parsons As recorded by Al Parsons on “Notebook” (2005) Moon breakin’ through a fluffy sky Shinin’ on the last couple walkin’ down West Nine Late-night bus wantin’ to sway(or “wantin’ its way”?) into Third Dude at the Sub Stop outside gettin’ the word All these Saturday-mornin’, laid-out(or “late out”?) Friday-night blues Video jockey in an all-night arcade Romancin’ things with some moves I can’t make I’ve sat an’ watch ’em all come and they go I’ve never seen a straight one now, don’t you know? All these Saturday-mornin’ laid-out Friday-night blues They all say they’re gettin’ out o’ this town I ain’t seen one leave since I’ve been aroun’ But you know I’ll be gettin’ out o’ here I’m out, baby, when I down this beer All these Saturday-mornin’ laid-out Friday-night blues. All these Saturday-mornin’ laid-out Friday-night blues. |

Subject: Lyr Add: FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES (John Conlee) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Nov 18 - 12:27 AM I’m sure this country song is not the one you had in mind, but it’s too good not to post. FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES Words and music by James “Sonny” Throckmorton & Rafe Van Hoy. As recorded by John Conlee on “Friday Night Blues” (1980) 1. He’s been workin’ all week; he’s got mental fatigue, And that ol’ couch sure looks fine. All week he’s been gone, she’s been sittin’ alone, Slowly going out of her mind. As he kicks off his shoes for the six o’clock news, She’s gettin’ all prettied up. While she’s wantin’ to boogie, he wants to lay there. She’s got the Friday night blues. CHORUS: Oh, those Friday night blues, they get in your shoes And they work to get you down. Ah, but there ain’t a lady that I ever knew Who didn’t need her a night on the town; But the hills and the bills and the week full of deals Has got him feelin’ used. While he’s kickin’ his shoes off, she’s puttin’ hers on, ’Cause she’s got the Friday night blues. 2. Oh, there once was a time she was top o’ the line, Her nights like teenage dreams. Now it’s op’ras at noon, dancin’ ’round with her broom, Talkin’ to the washin’ machine. Oh, the girl down the street says her husband is neat And makes it sound so true. Now she’s feelin’ lonely, thinks she’s the only One with the Friday night blues. CHORUS, REPEAT AND FADE. Also recorded by Sonny Throckmorton. |

Subject: Lyr Req: Friday Night Blues by Stuart MacGregor From: GUEST,Dom Date: 29 Oct 18 - 07:48 PM Known for songs like Coshieville, and Sandy Bell's Man. I am looking for the Lyric to Stuart MacGregor's Friday Night Blues. I'm missing a couple verses, I think. Anyway this is what I have. Friday Night Blues Friday night I guess I’m only half alive But when I hear the whistle blowing and it’s half past five I’ve been tied to a desk all day Now I know it’s my turn to play Make my way right quickly to a bar down town With an ever lovin’ woman with her hair hung down Pull out your pins, put your lipstick on Baby let your hair hang long! My mother always said I’d find an early grave What with all the booze and badness that my hormones crave Once I read the bible and it made me think But I never found a chapter that was better than a drink! Come on pretty lady be my girl for the night And we’ll find some beer that’s heavy and some talk that’s light Paradise is waiting so come on, come on Baby let your hair hang long! |
