I find it curious that (unless I'm mistaken) 'Vision & Revision' seems to feature no Scottish musicians - surprising in light of the fact that, historically, Topic has released music by many Scottish musicians and singers.

"John MacKenzie, my copy of Three Score and Ten has the tracklist of the seven CDs on pages 99-105, one page for each CD."
Humble apologies to Topic, I don't know how I missed that, Thanks Reinhard for pointing it out.

Releasing the old albums on CD doesn't make money since it's a minority interest.

The new CD is advertisement, showing that Topic is still alive and kicking, and hopefully guiding people to search out the back catalogue.
And it gives us some fine new interpretations of Topic classics.

yes but a lot of this CD is modern folkies rather than the source singers/original songwriters who were the essence of Topic in 1939.

So don't really see the point if, as stated, all the Topic output is online & CDs don't make money?

"I don't get the "first 80 years of" reference."

It's because the first record (a 78) that Topic released was in 1939 - "The Man Who Waters The Workers' Beer" by Paddy Ryan

And Vigilante Man is not a Topic release. It seems to be from one of these graverobber labels that cheaply reissue stuff that is over 50 years old and out of copyright.

Sadly the back catalogue of Leader et al still remain in limbo due to the DB fiasco.

Topic has reissued the majority of its back catalogue digitally.

Topic's digital reissues

You can find them on iTunes, Spotify, amazon.

It would be impracticable and would probably bankrupt them if Topic were to attempt to reissue its entire back catalogue on CD. I mean, good as those albums are, there simply aren't going to be enough purchasers of a CD reissue of a Bob Hart or Rose Murphy album to justify the expense.

:( only about half a dozen I'd be bothered about hearing a second time.
I don't get the "first 80 years of" reference.

Topic's reissue policy seems to be a bit random. I have a 2 CD set entitled Vigilante Man, which has 20 tracks of fairly good original stuff. I also have a 7CD set, in a book format, with the CD's set into the inside of the front and back covers. The CD's are themed, England/Scotland/Ireland etc, but nowhere in the book is there a full track list. It is beautifully presented, with some interesting articles inside, and the whole package is titled Three Score and Ten, 70 years of Topic. Looking at the track list for this latest reissue, I am underwhelmed by their choice, and the content.
I wish Topic would start at their beginning, and issue stuff in chronological order, with full background, instead of this lucky dip approach that seems to be going on.

For what it's worth, the set was just posted on USENET in the alt.binaries.sounds.lossless.folk group. (lossless means no artificial compressing like in MP3s)

Looked on Usenet via https://www.nzbindex.com/ but there was nothing remotely like Topic Records, and very little at alt.binaries.sounds.lossless.folk

It looks pretty sparse, considering the huge amount of possible choices.... maybe if they made a 20 CD set....

I know that a fairly small number of people bother with newsgroups any more, now that YouTube exists, but one can browse some amazing things there now & then.

Has anybody heard the new Topic Records 'Vision & Revision' anniversary compilation yet and, if so, does anybody have any thoughts about it?
