Subject: ADDPOP: Da Do Ron Ron From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Dec 19 - 02:13 AM The Dylan-Harrison rendition is fine, but I prefer the original of "Da Do Ron Ron." There's a Wikipedia article on "Da Do Ron Ron," a song by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector that was recorded by The Crystals in 1963. Here's the recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0dikX80Ed8 I woulda sworn this was a MoTown recording, but it's Philly/New York. But Ellie Greenwich should have come from Detroit. DA DO RON RON (Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector) I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Somebody told me that his name was Bill Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Yeah, my heart stood still Yes, his name was Bill And when he walked me home Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron I knew what he was doing when he caught my eye Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron He looked so quiet but my oh my Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Yeah, he caught my eye Yes, oh my, oh my And when he walked me home Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron He picked me up at seven and he looked so fine Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Someday soon I'm gonna make him mine Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Yeah, he looked so fine, Yes, I'll make him mine And when he walked me home Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah Da-do-ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Da do ron-ron-ron, da do ron-ron Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Jeff Barry / Ellie Greenwich / Philip Spector Da Doo Ron Ron lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group, BMG Rights Management, Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Dylan's 'Cupid' From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Dec 19 - 02:00 AM OK, so here's a recording of Dylan and George Harrison singing "Cupid" and "Da Do Ron Ron" on 1 May 1970: I don't see a vocal bridge, so maybe I'm listening to a different recording. There is an instrumental bridge in "Cupid," but it's just an extended version of the usual one from the original song. This recording is a medley of "Cupid" and a performance of "Da Do Ron Ron" with different lyrics. -Joe- The Dylan lyrics for "Da Do Ron Ron," such as they are, are here: DA DOO RON RON (words and music Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, Phil Spector) Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron. I met her on a monday, I met her on a monday, I met her on a monday, yes I met her on a monday. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Well I say goodbye on tuesday, say goodbye on tuesday. Say goodbye on tuesday. Say goodbye on tuesday. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. She came back again on wednesday. She came back again on wednesday. She came back again on wednesday. She came back again on wednesday. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. She left again on thursday. She left again on thursday. Left again on thursday. She left again on thursday. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. Da doo ron ron ron da doo ron ron ron. I saw her last friday. Subject: ADDPOP Cupid (Sam Cooke) From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Dec 19 - 01:57 AM There's a Wikipedia page on "Cupid." It was written by Sam Cooke, and his recording was released in 1961. Here are the Sam Cooke lyrics: CUPID (Sam Cooke, 1961) Cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me, for me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Now I don't mean to bother you but I'm in distress There's danger of me losing all of my happiness For I love a girl who doesn't know I exist And this you can fix So, cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me Nobody but me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Now, cupid if your arrow make a love storm for me I promise I will love her until eternity I know between the two of us her heart we can steal Help me if you will So, cupid draw back your bow And let your arrow go Straight to my lover's heart for me Nobody but me Cupid please hear my cry And let your arrow fly Straight to my lover's heart for me Now, cupid, don't you hear me Calling you, I need ya Cupid help me, I need ya Cupid, don't fail me Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Sam Cooke Cupid lyrics © Abkco Music, Inc Sam Cooke recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S28tILqie1o |

Subject: Tune Req: Dylan's 'Cupid' From: GUEST,Max Date: 13 Dec 19 - 01:20 AM What is the bridge Dylan plays on "Cupid" from the 1970 session with George Harrison? It certainly isn't the one from the Sam Cooke 1961 cut. Was Bob just goofing around or is this another version? |
