That's a nice verse, leeneia. That 2nd line only 2 syllables short, not 3. What about -
" O'er mountains and great deserts riding, following the star "

In the afternoon of January 1st, eight people will come to my house to celebrate National Pointless Day. i.e., why is this a holiday?

We are all too old or too smart to go out and get drunk on New Year's Eve, so we don't need to recover. And ecclesiastically, it is still the Christmas season. Technically, the Wise Men haven't even arrived at the stable yet. So we use this day to get out the drums, polish up our minor chords, and play songs about the "Three Kings." I know they weren't kings, but who would want to come to a Wise Men party?

Last week it occurred to me that God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen would be a good song for the party, but it lacks a verse about the Wise Men. So I wrote one.

Then from the eastern kingdoms came wise men from afar

o'ver mountains and great deserts they followed (3 syllables) the star

and offered to the Holy Child gold, frankincense and myrrh

O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy 2x
==============
I know, I know, I am probably the 10,000th person to rhyme star with afar. I have never claimed to be a rhymester.
