Whoa, it just dawned on me, my Fender Stratocaster is Midnight Blue, a more recent but standard Fender color often
used on the Robert Cray Strat. It didn't registered with me at first because, to me, it looks like dark purple.

Back to the topic: have we agreed on the three possible and probably real meanings of MBL? (Real as opposed to being funny/clever but silly.)

Nick said metallic blue, Reinhard said matte black or metallic blue, and Mick Pearce said marine blue. So it is used differently by different guitar makers.

Got it; it means whatever the manufacturer decides it means - marine blue, matt black etc. etc.

MBL is actually a TLA (Three letter abbreviation, for those wondering. Unlike WWW which isn’t - i.e. there are fewer sylables in “World Wide Web” than in “Double You, Double You, Double You”)
