Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: BrooklynJay Date: 14 May 20 - 07:08 PM Actually, it should be MLB. And what does that mean, of course? Major League Baseball. The thing that this household misses beaucoup. We return you now to our regularly scheduled debate. Jay |

Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: gillymor Date: 08 May 20 - 05:16 PM Whoa, it just dawned on me, my Fender Stratocaster is Midnight Blue, a more recent but standard Fender color often used on the Robert Cray Strat. It didn't registered with me at first because, to me, it looks like dark purple. |

Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: Helen Date: 08 May 20 - 04:20 PM Thanks Lou. I didn't know about Millie Small's passing. That was an iconic song. Thanks also to gillymor for your magnanimity. Wayne Newton, hmmm??!! Now that you mention it. Back to the topic: have we agreed on the three possible and probably real meanings of MBL? (Real as opposed to being funny/clever but silly.) Nick said metallic blue, Reinhard said matte black or metallic blue, and Mick Pearce said marine blue. So it is used differently by different guitar makers. |

Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: gillymor Date: 08 May 20 - 09:03 AM and btw, in the states there's nothing froggy about the word beaucoup, it's hipster slang for a large amount. You are forgiven your cultural ignorance. |

Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: Helen Date: 08 May 20 - 07:35 AM Or The Sex Pistols compared with Plastique Bertrand? I guess you could have really insulted me and called me a Celine Dion wannabe. For that I am grateful. However, as a non-singer I know in my heart of hearts that I don't wannabe either of them. Water off a duck's back. I'd rather be Derek Bell or Máire Ní Chathasaigh or Patsy Seddon and Mary McMaster. In my next life, that is. |

Subject: RE: Guitars: What does MBL mean? From: GUEST,Ray Date: 08 May 20 - 04:50 AM Got it; it means whatever the manufacturer decides it means - marine blue, matt black etc. etc. MBL is actually a TLA (Three letter abbreviation, for those wondering. Unlike WWW which isn’t - i.e. there are fewer sylables in “World Wide Web” than in “Double You, Double You, Double You”) |
