Thanks for all information, lve been picking up a bit on FB, seems there will plenty to do. We also need to fit in cream teas, several stiff walks, ales, pasties, it’s going to be a busy week! Have a good, safe time all who attend.

The Middle Bar Singers are meeting again in the upstairs function room at The Anchor: from Thursday evening July 29th through to Friday evening 6th August. Evenings 8-11pm, lunchtimes from Friday July 30th at 12.30. - 3pm. See their Facebook page.
And I think Doom, Gloom and Despondency is still going ahead: Thursday afternoon usually at The RY&F.
Some people not going this year, ourselves included, but that's down to husband's recent major surgery!

JHW, as this thread was asking about fringe events at Sidmouth, you comments are irrelevant, sorry.

I believe many fringe singers are heading for Sidmouth this year and there is a programme available which includes fringe events.

Thanks for feedback. My findings are maybe history. Got in the Ham once, with ticket but sat on the Sid wall instead as it was less clammy and I could still hear.
I just gave up queuing.

JHW ... the ticketing system means that for the evening concerts in the Ham, people queuing will all get in (as long as they have an all-in-one or event ticket), and I can't remember an occasion in recent years when people were turned away from lunchtime or afternoon concerts. The Manor Pavilion is a different matter! It's just too small, but its intimacy is one of its attractions!

After 33 years attending Sidmouth Festival we have the queues worked out quite well and know how long the queue needs to be before we have no chance of getting in. A four hour queue for Sid Kipper at the Bulverton one year resulted in front row seats owing to most people being reluctant to be seen in the front row of anything. We have made some long time friends waiting in Sidmouth queues over the years.

Years ago at Sidmouth I worked out that even if you had a ticket a venue might be full and you might queue in vain. So I passed queues at the Ham or the Pavilion and didn't waste time waiting to be disappointed. And that was before Covid.

Does not just involve or impinge on those attending. Risk assessment requires that venues have to be temporarily shut down and deep cleaned between "uses". Financially that might well put owners off staging anything other than actual formal concerts.

I tend to agree with JHW's take on things given above.

But after such abstinence the whole world and my sister will want to attend, so how do you keep people out??
I totally agree about sensible measures e.g. masks and distancing etc. But if people think they wont get in they probably wont turn up.
Perhaps a rota system - is that workable ??

Whilst keen to get back to singarounds we are still at the stage where it would probably be advisable to limit numbers to allow for some social distancing; have a dedicated performance area; ask for mask wearing when not performing; open the windows and provide hand sanitiser.   It’s certainly not impossible.

I'm afraid the 'seaside' singarounds in Roger's/Pavilion bar are one of the things long missed I liked about Sidmouth and found the York and Faulk much more suited to nightime, which also doesn't happen now. Overall I reckon Folk dos as we knew them are gone for good.   Folks seem to like Zoom. I've only sung at rare garden or woodland clearing dos. Outside. Indoor Folk venues tended to be short on ventilation. Good Luck though.

I'm in discussion with Sara Hook about morning song sessions in the Faulkner bar if there are enough singers who feel happy with singing indoors, so let me know if you're thinking you might be one of them!

Are there likely to be any fringe singarounds at Sidmouth this year, assuming Cov19 rules are fully relaxed?
