As far as filters and such go, Grab, you can set the filter to whatever constraints you care to, plus any thread which you want to easily be able to come back to, just click on where it says "Trace" at the far right of the thread title and it will be traced to your personal page. You can always detrace it when you're no longer interested.

Of course, you could quit your job, but so far none of us has been able to get such an addiction classified and recognised enough to get governement support in our time of *need*. **BG**

Start a separate thread for your song and just be clear in the title of the thread. That is the main thing which saves everyone time, is being very clear about what the thread is about.

Looking forward to seeing your songs.

grab - do a search for "songbook" and you will see one appropriate spot to add, or you can start a thread, or you can offer it up in one of the "social" threads, such as MudCat Tavern 2000 -1.

But be warned, if you ask for comment, you will get it.

Dear Grab,

Welcome! Glad that you're here and looking forward to seeing/hearing your songs! Sure, go ahead and post your song on a thread -- if you want to ask for folks' opinions, be assured that you'll get them (ha!).

I just wanted to let you know that the Mudcat has its own Mudcat Songbook, where Mudcatters can post their songs that they want to share with others. Please click on the link and take a look. If you want to share your tunes, take a look at Alan of Oz' Mudcat Midi Page here. Both of these pages can also be reached through the 'Quick Links' drop down menu at the top of the Mudcat Forum pages.

Again, welcome and I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Grab! If you own the song, you can of course use it any way you like. (If not, definitely start by reading the current thread "Round 3: NMPA..."--highly important) Rather typically, mudcatters post their own lyrics as a contribution to a content-relevant thread. If you want to just post your lyrics for comment, I'm sure hardly anyone will take offense (grin).

Only advice I offer on filtering is don't even glance at the ones that don't give a clear clue in the title what their content is...everyone has constraints on their time and there is a definite mudcat etiquette push to label new threads clearly and usefully...

Hi, I'm fairly new here, and to folk music - just started playing guitar and singing (and fiddling shortly) at a folk club here in Cambridge early last year.

For anyone in the UK, incidentally, I recommend going to the Unicorn in Cherry Hinton on the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month. Good friendly folk club with an average-ish standard, so it's OK for anyone to get up and have a go. Also recommended is the 3 Stags outside Sheffield on a Saturday night, if anyone's from around there - that's much more professional though.

Anyway, I was wondering, what's the etiquette for posting new songs? I've got one I wrote myself just b4 xmas, and I'd like to post it. Do I stick it on here and look for a general yes/no opinion, or what?

And as a side issue, have I missed some sort of filtering? There's hundreds of messages appearing each day, and I can't track them all and work at the same time! Any advice? apart from quitting work to read forums all day that is! :-)

Cheers folks,

Grab.
