Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: gillymor Date: 11 Feb 24 - 12:45 PM As I recall he also did slate roofs and was proud of keeping his community warm and dry. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: GUEST,paperback Date: 11 Feb 24 - 12:31 PM Thx, Stilly River Sage, I liked that about him having lost a few fingernail playing with large field stones myself. It's a skill being able to read rocks and knowing where they fit. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Feb 24 - 05:18 PM I think that is correct, about part of his employment. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: GUEST,paperback Date: 04 Feb 24 - 02:43 PM flopflip, is that you, popgun? Anyroad, was akenaton the Scot who did the dry stone work or am I mistaken? |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: The Sandman Date: 03 Feb 24 - 04:37 PM I agree with you |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Backwoodsman Date: 03 Feb 24 - 01:58 PM ”The Muskets had it right, but they were the ones blocked for sniping at him.” I miss The Muskets on the forum (although I see one of them most Monday evenings at a local Folk/Acoustic Music Club). I haven’t missed Ake in the slightest, although I take no pleasure from his demise - death is always a sad event, no matter whose it may be. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: The Sandman Date: 03 Feb 24 - 12:41 PM You are of course, right, 100 per cent. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Feb 24 - 11:42 AM The Muskets had it right, but they were the ones blocked for sniping at him. He accused them of libel, but in fact I think they were reporting on issues that made it to the local newspapers. There are a lot of bodies along the way regarding our old friend Ake. He was sometimes overt, sometimes sly, but he could never bite his tongue and stop trashing threads to keep making his point. His views of homosexuality and American politics, among other things, were posted to upset discussions. There was a period of detente I can identify in my messages from him around 2014-15 when his wife was ill, but once she was in the nursing home and after her passing and he was on his own he seems to have gone a bit nuts on the threads. This is just an observation, whether correlation or causation I can't say. |

Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: gillymor Date: 02 Feb 24 - 05:44 PM I was going to refrain from posting here but then Don attempted to whitewash (no pun intended) Ake's "digital persona". |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: The Sandman Date: 02 Feb 24 - 05:21 PM i never had any problem with him, in fact if we had met in person, i am sure we would have enjoyed a good laugh about one or two things. You shpuld never judge anyone on their internet posts, the internet has limitations as regards communication. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Feb 24 - 02:49 PM As I said, I never got on with him but I wouldn't wish him any harm or dream of turning his obituary into a platform for having a go at fellow Mudcatters. Leave it out people. Even if you didn't respect him in life, have some respect for the feelings of his loved ones now he has gone. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Big Al Whittle Date: 02 Feb 24 - 02:32 PM He seemed to raise the ire of all the 'right-on' members of mudcat. The reasons were various and what the hell it was about was hard to understand for most of us. There was some talk of cruelty to animals and frequent denunciations of his ideology. They dobbed him in to the mods, who seemed to remove his posts. This made it even harder to follow what was going on for the rest of us. Somewhere along the line we lost hundreds of mudcatters who were repelled by the wildness of the accusations and the foul atmosphere. Anyway I don't suppose any of us will figure in the history of the next two hundred years, except perhaps as an example of 20th century neuroses. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: gillymor Date: 02 Feb 24 - 02:14 PM He was an avid supporter of "Donal John", just to give you some idea. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Feb 24 - 12:14 PM He's got you there, Don. It's the reason Ake couldn't post here any more. But he did come in and remark in the music sections and when it wasn't dog whistle stuff it usually stayed in the threads. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: GUEST,flopflip Date: 02 Feb 24 - 11:51 AM He wasn't a revolutionary at all, but an utterly unpleasant racist and sexist bigot! |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Donuel Date: 29 Jan 24 - 07:20 PM Akenaton was a revolutionary in his digital persona just as the original Akenaton was to the religion of ancient Egypt. He will be missed. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickell / akenaton From: Waddon Pete Date: 23 Jan 24 - 10:22 AM Sadly, another Mudcatter has left us to be with his maker. I have included Alex Tickell, (akenaton), in the "In Memoriam" thread and send my condolences to all those who know and love him. RIP |

Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickel/akenaton-can it be so? From: keberoxu Date: 21 Jan 24 - 02:25 PM I recall from some of akenaton's later posts that his wife pre-deceased him. Here's hoping that they are together now. |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickel/akenaton-can it be so? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 21 Jan 24 - 01:59 PM From Facebook on January 6, 2024: It is with deep sadness to advise the Strachur and wider community that our much loved dad Alex Tickell Snr., after a relatively short illness, passed away at lunchtime today in Inverclyde with his family by his side. You can track through that account to land on the Alex Tickell FB account (very shut down). |
Subject: RE: 2024 Obit: Alex Tickel/akenaton-can it be so? From: GUEST,Gallus Moll Date: 21 Jan 24 - 09:15 AM Rhudi Zack, one of Alex's sons, posted news of his death on FB page - sadly I had not seen akenaton in a while - used to cross paths periodically, chat about folk music and ither things. Rest easy. Akenaton........ |
