For want of opportunity we made our first visit to a folk club on Monday for about four years.
We have been to other events and are still organising a popular annual dance event as well as being part of a highly successful singing weekend - there's life in the old bones still.
At the folk club we met up with a number of people we have known for a lot of years and were pleased to do so. THe guest had driven 200 miles to get there with no opportunity to arrange other appearances in the area or even en route in either direction. I suspect their next but one guests will probably have the same dilemma.
The covid pandemic is part of the problem but also the gradual loss of the vast majority of the folk clubs that were active when we first got drawn to the music.
Gone are the days when there were regularly clubs on most nights of the week within less than an hours drive of most conurbations. In and around Hull we had regular clubs on at least six nights a week.
In my opinion Dick does no harm in making people aware that there still are clubs operating and even some new ones!

Dick Miles is a fine singer and musician as well as being an engaging performer. As far as I know, he isn't from a famous family and doesn't have a publicity machine behind him. I don't see why he shouldn't tell people on Mudcat about his gigs.

Me, me, me, me, me! It's always about you, isn't it? No mention of other performers .... what an egotist!

I received this pleasing e mail from the club organiser
Just a brief message to express both mine and the folk clubs thanks for your wonderful performance last night. So many fantastic songs and stories which brought them to light.
Enjoy your stay in England, and a safe journey 'back home' when the time comes.
Love, light and many thanks, Rhona xx
