The question-marks showing above were originally asterisks and emojis that I posted from the Facebook page, didn't realize they'd come out like that...!

Not one I'm involved in organising, but given recent news articles about the struggles of folk festivals, and consequent internet-forum debates about the health of the scene, I'd like to draw attention to this absolutely fantastic event in Chester this coming Saturday -

The line-up is almost a who's who of the best of the young(er), slightly more experimental/'outsider' UK folk scene;

And the vibe is one of openness, freshness and different angles of approach, whilst still engaging with, celebrating and sustaining the wellspring of tradition that we all value so much.

Details as follows. GET INVOLVED if you're able!!

NORTHGATE FOLK FESTIVAL 2024
Saturday 24 August
Alexander’s Live, Rufus Court, Chester, CH1 2JW
£20 adv/£22 OTD

Northgate Folk Festival, the North West’s leading experimental and contemporary folk all-dayer returns on 24.8.24.

Nestled within the city's Roman Walls, the festival will once again play host to the new wave of artists forging their own paths in traditional music.

Featuring:
Stick In The Wheel ? Nick Hart ? Frankie Archer ? Goblin Band ? Mary Elizabeth Remington ? Craven ? Brown Wimpenny ? Caitlin Gilligan ? Seb Stone ? Rosie Brownhill ? Molly No-Mates ? Kinnerton Morris Men ? Clerical Error ? Stone Club DJs

Known for their intense live shows exploring the raw holler of folk, electronica, spoken word and intricate dobro guitar, Stick In The Wheel are this year’s radical and razor-sharp headliners.

They join award-winning multi-instrumentalist Nick Hart, innovative electrofolk artist Frankie Archer, Massachusetts’ enchanting Mary Elizabeth Remington, unstoppable queer folk collective Goblin Band, and many more ?????

Celebrating “the enigmatic relationship between ancient stone monuments, folklore and music”, Stone Club will soundtrack the day ??

Festivalgoers can also expect impressive dance displays from Bristol’s premier drag king Molly dancing team Molly No-Mates, Kinnerton Morris Men and Clerical Error Morris Dancers.

12pm - 11pm ? Under 12s free ? £20 adv ? £22 otd ? Family Friendly
