Belafonte was in Australia in 1960, so it was probably that tour. I haven't watched it yet, but his entire 1981 performance for Parkinsons (link) is on YouTube.

Apparently, he did intend to go into the bush and record aboriginal songs (link) -- perhaps he found a trad. song (obviously not of aboriginal origin) that he liked while out?

I'm doing some research into Harry Belafonte and found a news article that describes him performing “a song sung by a native father looking at the baby whose mother’s death is imminent” at a folk concert in Australia.

Does anyone know what song this might be?
