Well, we do wonder if your emailer is thinking about May/Summer carols. Siwsi George recorded Mae'r Ddaear yn Glasu which might have been doing the rounds in the '80s but it isn't purely instrumental. There was a small volume of summer carols - a reprint of a 1944 collection, plus some additions - in 2017: "Canu Haf" (Summer Singing), Cwmni Cyhoeddi Gwynn (Gwynn Publishing Company), ISMN 979-0-708091-26-4. They're songs but tunes are often used without words.

I'll check around. Ar Log would have been getting a bit of play time in North America at the time but I can't think of anything they played that would fit the bill. I'll poke about a bit.

from email:
Hello. This is a longshot. I am trying to find a particular Welsh summer solstice folk song that came from a Canadian radio station to Glacier National Park Montana in June 1982. I am trying every possible lead and I wonder if you have any ideas. What I recall is the song was instrumental, was so sweet sounding... maybe with mandolin, a little harp, maybe a special banjo, maybe dulcimer. It didn't sound like a jig pace, more melodic. This is my 43rd summer solstice trying to find the song that aired in June that year. It may be impossible, but maybe you might have clues? Thank you for any ideas. Lisa
