Tri Yann recording
Lyrics. Translation by Google Translate with a very few changes by me)

Comme mon père me l'avait appris

THE DOLPHIN (Translation by Google Translate with a very few changes by me)

On the deserted moor, a woman hums
For her child and for herself too:
I know your father, little man
He lives very far, very far from here...

One stormy evening he came in
My God, what a face he had!
He said, sitting down on the bed:
I am the father of the little one

I am a man on earth
I am a dolphin in the sea
I live very far, very far from here
In the current of the Sule Skerry

Throwing a purse of gold on the table
He said: this is for your effort
As for the little one, from today
You must separate from him

I will come and take him one evening at dusk
When the sky clings to the damaged nets
And teach him to catch the foam
As my father taught me

You will marry a fisherman
The most skillful of harpooneers
And the first shot he shoots
Will kill my son, my son and me

On the deserted moor, a woman hums
For her child and for herself too:
I know your father, little man
He lives very far away, very far from here

I heard someone singing "The Grey Selkie of Sule Skerry" in French on Sunday - or something like it, using the James Waters tune. I couldn't stay to ask her about it.

A bit of Googling suggests that Tri Yann did one in the 70s using Waters's tune, but French versions are far older than that tune, and older than any versions in English or Scots. But I can't find any of them. And does anyone have a link to the Tri Yann one?
