Subject: RE: musician Julian Winston - US & NZ From: Felipa Date: 30 Apr 26 - 03:50 PM Before posting about Julian Winston, I had done a Mudcat search and found nothing. Then I noticed that the musician was known by a nickname, "Winnie", so I did another search. Unfortunately Julian Winston did not live to the age of 80, not even the proverbial "three score and ten." It was the late great Jean Ritchie who posted news of the death in 2005 on Mudcat https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=83073 |

Subject: musician Julian Winston - US & NZ From: Felipa Date: 30 Apr 26 - 03:40 PM I never heard of Julian "Winnie" Winston before today, when I read his page https://julianwinston.com/music/me_and_music.php Julian, who would be in his 80s now, grew up in New York in the 1950s listening to folk and old-timey music and learning the guitar and banjo. Julian moved to Philadelphia circa 1971, and in 1995 he emigrated to New Zealand. Julian Winston is the author of "Pedal Steel Guitar" (Oak Publications, 1976) and the editor of "A Manual of Style" (1980). He would be better known as an accompanist/backing musician and band member than as a lead musician. Julian has recorded with Steve Goodman, "David Bromberg, Rosalie Sorrels, Jim Ringer and Mary McCaslin, and Saul Broudy-- all major folk acts in the USA." https://julianwinston.com/music/discography.php Who at Mudcat knows or knew Winnie Winston and can tell us more? |
