I hope to make a better audio recording at some stage, Cinders the cat does cause a couple of wrong notes at the end! https://www.weavers-uprising.org.uk/ gives a lot more detail about the commemorations. Subject: Weavers uprising bicentennial From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 11 May 26 - 05:47 PM The Weavers Uprising of 1826 is being commemorated in several forms in Lancashire this year. The Lancashire society has put on a concert in two 45 minute halves at Helmshore museum with a repeat performance planned for 18th July. I have written a couple of songs for it and we also include traditional items from the time and other more recent material, including poems and some clog dancing, to tell the story of the uprising, the background causes and some of the details of the known victims of the massacre at Chatterton. This was very much hushed up at the time, probably as a result of the controversy following "Peterloo", and apparently hushed up very succesfully as even locally it was not taught about in schools although on a similar scale to the earlier "Peterloo" and the later "Plug plot". I have just got round to putting one of my songs, We are met with guns, onto youtube. We are met with guns Robin |
