Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Little Neophyte Date: 02 Feb 00 - 09:35 PM Hello, I am a one of Guy's satisfied customers. I received a lovely geranium pot from Guy. Proceeds went to Max in the last fund raiser. I must say it is the best pot I have ever had. It was so good I am now addicted and must order another one. $30.00??? Guy, the price has gone down. Is this a lower quality pot? Count me in as the first purchaser. There are only 9 pots left Folks. I suggest you grab them while they are hot! Guy, does this one come with seeds too? BB |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: dick greenhaus Date: 02 Feb 00 - 06:58 PM A bit of amplification. If you order recordings through the Mudcat Shop, Mudcat gets a cut, no matter who fills the order. If the recording you want isn't listed at the Mudcat Shop, contact Folk Legacy (Sandy- 860/364-5611) or Camsco (me-- 800/458-FOLK) and ask. One way or t'other, you'll find what you're looking for (if it's in print) at a price competitive with the big boys. And, in either case, if you mention Mudcat, Mudcat gets a percentage. If you order through one of the big boys (CDNow, B&N, Amazon.com, CD Universe) through the Mudcat siote, Mudcat gets a (smaller) commission. if you don't buy through Mudcat, shame on you! |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: katlaughing Date: 02 Feb 00 - 04:53 PM Thanks, Alan and Max, for making that more clear. I didn't mean to be picky. Max, I went to click on the link for Acumin vitamins and it didn't work. Also, the other day when I was on that page, I saw a link for GREEN something? Thought maybe it was clothing etc? Didn't see it today. Wanted to check it out. Thanks, katlaughing (with a lower case "k", 'cause there is another "Kat" on here)

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Amos Date: 02 Feb 00 - 04:38 PM Tell you what, Max. For what it is worth I am cutting CDs of all the songs I can remember, and that project is what brought me to the Cat in the first place. The software I use produces AIFF files, which are fairly large. But if you want'em, and can talk someone into paying fifty cents to down load one for nostalgia's sake, you're welcome to 'em as they get cut. There will be about 300 songs and I should warn you that some of the recordings are ... not as polished as you'd get at Amazon!! But if you can find a use for 'em, just ask.

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Max Date: 02 Feb 00 - 02:41 PM Thank you Alan. Yes, I think I told Alan that figure of $200 at the last getaway, before the auction and before the NMPA/HFA scare (which turned out to be the best fund raiser ever). The grand total for the life of the Mudcat (4 years) is now around $2000. That includes some recent, very generous, contributions from a few of our regulars. Not sure they want me to say who, but I do have great thanks for the VERY generous nature of the generosity. Thanks Clinton, but I am not sure there is much you can all do yet. I have, and will continue to ask, that you all contribute content to the site. The kids section is thin, and I am will to publish any kind of thing. If you do not see a section for what you may want to contribute, I will make one. I'd rather the Mudcat earn money rather than have it be given it. That is why we started the record sales and the auction, and we have more ideas lined up. If you all have any other ideas, I'd be glad to hear em. I provide the service of the community for free. I would also like to find relevant products that you would buy anyway, at a fare price that helps us foot our bills. |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Sorcha Date: 02 Feb 00 - 02:39 PM I don't know why I hate bake sales, I just do. I would rather just donate the $ than have to make all the stuff that gets sold for less than it cost me to make it. I don't really mind baking, i'ts just that when I spend $10 bucks to make and decorate stuff, and it sells for $5 it seems a rather stupid waste of my time. I am digging for auction items, and will send $ tomorrow! |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Allan C. Date: 02 Feb 00 - 02:35 PM DougR, I, too, was shocked to learn this. No, Kat, it wasn't that long ago. But we were talking about outright donations, not anything else. Sure, Max takes in a little from the auction and the recorded music sales and even the t-shirts. But you have to realize that while such money is extremely helpful, it still doesn't amount to any huge amount when all is said and done. I do not in any way intend for anyone to infer that these means are unimportant. I am certain that Max is grateful to all who have supported the 'Cat through these methods. I am only saying that if any of us has it within our power to "cut out the middle man" and give some money straight to the Mudcat, it could be very helpful. |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: katlaughing Date: 02 Feb 00 - 01:57 PM Allan, that must've been awhile ago, or it didn't include the auction. If you add up the percentages of items in auction, it should come to more than that. I'm basing that on what I remember when I totaled up my own items. BUT, of course that need to be really constant to help a lot. AND, it does not preclude the need for consistent donations. I have said this before, don't know if we are any closer to it being possible or not, but I would love it if we could set up automatic deductions, the same way our local NPR stations do it. katlaughing |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 02 Feb 00 - 01:06 PM Instead of Money, it seems to me that maybe Max could wo with taking a couple fo the die hard regualrs here and make them Site Mod.s as well as himself.. that'd take some of the load off... How is it put? A burden shared is no burden... Just my 0.02 |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: DougR Date: 02 Feb 00 - 01:02 PM Allan C: I'm shocked that so little money has been donated! So it's not tax deductible! Neither are political contributions but I'm sure some of us back up our political beliefs with a few dollars. Look on it as an investment in pleasure. DougR |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Allan C. Date: 02 Feb 00 - 12:25 PM On a rather serious note, the last time I spoke with Max about this sort of thing, (and he may not approve of my telling you this but it is time it was said,) there had been less than $200 (US) in outright donations to the 'Cat. I am fairly sure Max would be quick to jump in and say that the Mudcat isn't in any real financial trouble. But I will say that a few more dollars wouldn't hurt anything either. No, as yet the Mudcat is not listed as a deductible charity, so you're not going to get any tax write-offs here. But give it some serious thought, folks. If you could put a dollar amount on the quantity of pleasure and enjoyment you have gotten here, what would it be? Could you send that much to the Mudcat? Could you send part of it? Could you spare a dollar for each of the new friends you have made here? Send it! |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 02 Feb 00 - 11:23 AM What is wrong with bake sales Sorcha? Except for the fact that if Max wanted to raise money through a bake sale, he may have to limit the baked good items to Matzoh for ease of mailing. Bake sale wouldn't do too well, when Max gives out cookies for nothing! |

Subject: RE: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: katlaughing Date: 02 Feb 00 - 01:29 AM Sorcha, Max has never had a problem accepting personal checks or money orders. If you click on the mudcat (fish) leaping out of the banjo, it will lead you to the snail mail addy. If I remember right it is 8 Gay Street, West Chester, PA, but don't remember the zip. When I sold stuff at auction, the Mudcat and I have always been paid through the mail by personal check. If you do have credit cards, you can call the toll free numbers at the Mudcat and Folk Legacy and I am sure Camsco (it is owned by Dick Greenhaus who is the God of the DT) and give them your info that way, rather than the over the net. I don't know if the others who share a percentage with the 'Cat have 800 numbers or not. Hope this helps. katlaughing |

Subject: BS About Mudcat $$$,Seriously From: Sorcha Date: 02 Feb 00 - 01:14 AM OK, phoaks, I know I'm fairly new, but what are we gonna do about the Mudcat Kitty? I understand about Max's problems taking donations, and I understand about buying stuff thru Mudcat, but some of us 1) don't have credit cards and 2) won't use them on the net even in a secure site. Max, got any suggestions? I would be happy to help if we can figure out how, other than credit cards. |
