Hi, Shambles - messages stay on the Forum Menu for 24 hours after the most recent message was posted. They can always be brought back by posting a new message, and you can find older threads by the Forum Search and "Filter" utilities. I'd agree with MMario's recommendation that we link to and don't refresh threads with more than 100 messages, but it's a great idea to resurrect the shorter old threads and continue the discussion.

Yes, I agree. I have found it invaluable too.

The way the search works, brings up not just the topic you asked for but all the threads that contain the words you used. It brings up some unlikely topics and some that are more interesting than the one you may have been looking for.

I would liken the experience to placing old newspapers down, to protect the floor, when you are going to decorate or make a mess.

On the floor you see all these fascinating stories, that you paid little heed to when first reading but which now compel you to sit on the floor and read them thoroughly. In my case it is probably an avoidance tactic?

All you have to do to bring these threads up (if you think there is mileage in them, there is not a current thread on the subject and they are not too long), is add your thoughts and it will appear in the current threads. They do seem to leave quickly once there though, even when new contributions are made there (or is that my imagination)? So a new thread with a reference or a link to the older one, maybe the better option. If you can't do a link, just asked and some kind soul will help.

You'll also find that although 'catters may fall out over musical tastes, politics and religion, we all seem to be seriously interested in food!
And (mea culpa) some of us can't resist the excuse to recycle a bad joke or a terrible pun, but rarely manage to rival the experts (you'll soon find out who they are!)

Nota bene: If a thread is nearly at and/or OVER 100 contributions, PLEASE don't refresh it - but rather, if it needs to be brought back, put a link to it, or ask someone to....

Reason - that is the typical point that the thread overloads most browsers
