Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: Banjer Date: 06 Feb 00 - 06:57 PM OK, nobody took me seriously so I'll make an attempt at starting a song for Granny: 1. Well Granny Haddock took a long walk, Granny Haddock gave a short talk, Said she wants us all to see What's going on in Washington, DC. Chorus: Corruption's running rampant, Votes are being sold, Seems like most honest folk Are being left out in the cold! 2. Granny says our country needs us, Above all we should note That things won't get any better If we don't get out and vote! Chorus I got it started, can anyone add on? |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: Banjer Date: 05 Feb 00 - 06:57 PM In a time when heroes are few and scoundrels ar many it is refreshing indeed to hear of such spirit and determination as exhibited by Granny Haddock. Three cheers for her and all like her!! Wonderful story Amos...Thank you... I am not very good at writing lyrics, but maybe someone with that talent could write a folk song for Granny? |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: GUEST,Frankie Date: 05 Feb 00 - 06:55 AM Amos, thanks for this wonderful and timely posting. I was unaware of Granny D but I'll spread the word. Bicycling the C&O towpath along the Potomac from Georgetown up to Cumberland use to be a springtime ritual for me and a couple of my oldest friends. Regards, Frankie |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 04 Feb 00 - 09:52 PM How come people like her aren't in charge over there? Or over here.
Mind, I knew someone to match her, Sylvia Jacobs, died aged 80 something a couple of years ago, never lost her temper, never gave an inch in battling to help people get justice, never ceased to find the world entertaining.
Sylvia couldn't match Doris Haddock when it came to walking, because both her hips had gone - but they'd definitely have had an enormous amount in common. And probably a lot to argue about, and take delight in arguing with each other. |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: katlaughing Date: 04 Feb 00 - 04:13 PM Heard about another wonderful old woman the other day. She is 102, lives on the shore of a small lake in Massachusetts and teeheed on the radio about how, when it is foggy and there are no fishermen around, she goes skinny-dipping! Gotta love 'em! |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: Wesley S Date: 04 Feb 00 - 04:09 PM What a wonderful story. I think one of the worst things we can do to ourselves is think that we are powerless. Lets hope a lot more people are inspired by Granny D. I can only hope that I have that much spunk and energy when I'm her age. |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: Willie-O Date: 04 Feb 00 - 11:34 AM Y'know, I thought I was immune to American patriotic rhetoric, even when used in support of great causes like this. Turns out I'm not. Partly it's from seeing, over the past few years, my 86-year-old socialist father lose his lifelong political passions as he descends into Parkinsons/Alzheimers dementia...but Granny's words are pure poetry. May she still be speaking and acting as wisely at 110! Willie-O |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: katlaughing Date: 04 Feb 00 - 11:18 AM Thank you, Amos. I have heard of her nad wondered how she was doing. What an inspiration! I have just emailed your message to my 80 yr old Aunt Maggie who eschews the company of old folks because, in her opinion, all they do is talk about their aches and pains. What wonderful women, eh? katlaughing |

Subject: RE: BS: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 04 Feb 00 - 10:46 AM Granny D is certainly one of my heroes- especially as she comes from a town not ten miles from here. We are so proud of her here in the Monadnock region! |

Subject: Current Heroism: Granny Haddock From: Amos Date: 04 Feb 00 - 10:38 AM Part of our job is to continuously point to heros, and to constantly renew issues that have been buried by complacency and BS. We are gadflies by nature. Here's to a current heroine who does both these duties with grace. My apologies for the length of the follwoing forward. A
