The Voice
Question
I Know You're Out There Somewhere
Want To Be With You
Oooh, and what about "Go Now"? Great chords!

Steve: I was raised Catholic, too...funnily enough, many modern pagans and witches were raised the same way! Theories for conversion include: 1) love of ritual instilled at young age (incense, Latin, robes, etc.) 2) rejection of sexual guilt and denigration of women rampant in Catholic religion 3) love of religious rites of passage (confirmation, etc.)corresponds to similar rites in paganism....

Mbo: I had a Hallowe'en/birthday party last October where, at the end of the night when just a few die-hards were left, we sat by the glowing embers in the fireplace and I played Moody Blues records (yes records!!!)...the music was perfect for the time and the mood...and vinyl has a magic to it, something of a bygone era... my all time favorite Moody Blues song changes weekly depending on my mood, but my faves include:

The Actor

Tuesday Afternoon

Voices in the Sky :~)

I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band

Ride My SeeSaw

Nights in White Satin (naturally)

Legend of a Mind

Never Comes the Day

Watching and Waiting

Story in Your Eyes

Oh man! Oh man! I was just singing "Voices In The Sky" ysterday! Their lyrics are so profound, they just seem to know EXACTLY how you feel! My current favorite is "Isn't Life Strange?" Talk about knowing how I feel!

Peg,

And there I was being raised Catholic, they never mentioned Dionysus or Pan, but I think they both jumped into my life somehow. They must have spent some time in Ireland with my Grandfather.

The Moody Blues rule. Utterly. I read once that people used to follow them around and just go up to them after shows and say, basically, "Tell me what to do with my life." Justin Hayward's lyrics were/are profound to many of us, and the often wistful, passionate melodies and powerful arrangements are unforgettable...and now I look at what I just wrote and see my own words pale in comparison to what that music actually says.

My favorite MB song of the moment: Voices in the Sky

"OLd man, passing by, tell me what you sing; though your voice is faint, I am listening..."

all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals, to quote a common Neo-pagan platitude: that would include Guinness. She knows how to have a good time! invented it, come to think of it... and Dionysus or Pan would be her male counterpart...one god of the vine, of ecstasy and drunkenness, the other god of wild nature and sexuality...

Peg,

Aphrodite said to acknowledge and celebrate Guinness? I think I could fall for her.

1967 sounds right; a great year for music, BTW; classic, I mean _classic_, albums that year by The Moody Blues, Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix, the Beatles, Creem, and lesser known folks like Fever Tree, etc.

Mbo: it'll happen, dude. Don't sweat it. I know everyone says women don't have this problem, but...Heck, I have been "single" for over two years now, and I even go to pagan gatherings every year!!! (where even ugly morons can get laid) I am happy being single but romance is always nice, too...and my current state of affairs, so to speak, is not for lack of offers, necessarily, but lack of offers from anyone who is actually: 1) available (to me, that is; plenty of married or otherwise involved guys hit on me; what is up with that??? I have no problem with polyamory, but I have no desire to be someone's "secondary" for very long...) 2) attractive (to me, that is; I am not into Ken Doll types, and attractiveness is a subjective thing, certainly...but being a Libra, I need beauty in my life, whether it is fairness of face or of heart...someone with both is a nice find, too. But real "beauty" or "chemistry" is something intangible; we all know it when we see it, I guess...)

for what it's worth...

Honor Aphrodite by acknowledging and celebrating all that is beautiful in your life: both within and without. Flowers, wine, music, clothes, trees, buildings, music, poetry, animals, music, friendship, apples, roses, Guinness, cashmere, mountains, sunset, moonrise, birdsong, woodsmoke, thunderstorms, etc etc etc... Honor the goddess of love and beauty and she will bestow her gifts, trust me on this one... her most valuable gift being, learning to love oneself and accept love from others...

oh, and Happy Valentine's Day! ;~))

"He's just a young boy looking for a place to find love--nothing you can say will help him understand what he wants--He's got to do it for himself, but it can take so long....he's just a young boy looking for a place to find love---and he might come looking for you" Good song.

Moonchild, I'm with you on your comments to CH. I'm slightly on the young side of being a baby boomer but I was still there in the 60's and can "remember when . . . "

Spaw, I really appreciate a guy that can and does admit his true feelings, thanks for sharing them. I very much believe in Fate and "when it's right, it's right".

My summer of love is going to be in this great new year of 2000 . . . and I can't wait!!

Yeah Meebo...I love to razz you, but just relax...ti'll happen, generally when you're not looking for it.

I was 36 and had long stopped "looking" .... still was having a good time and taking out a lot of nice women, but surely wasn't looking to marry any of them. Then, quite by accident, I met Karen and knew within 20 minutes that I was going to marry her. We had one date after that two days later, and then she had to go out of town for a few days. When she came back, I cancelled the "date" we had planned and instead I drove over and picked her up...and asked her to marry me. Turns out she had already started designing a wedding dress. When something is right, its right, She is the best thing that ever happened in my life and I thank the fates that brought us together.

Spaw

The Summer of Love of 1967.

Clinton Hammond ... I take it you weren't old enough to have been there. Too bad. I wouldn't even try to explain the overall climate of the times that was so prevalent. And I'm glad I remember where I was when Kennedy was shot and can answer questions about the event. BTW ... Baby Boomers turn 53 this year, not 55. You must walk through life with a sneer on your face because you rarely say anything that sounds even remotely positive.

Kennedy shot? I was pissing up against a wall in a primitive toilet outside a pub in Oxford before going in to a folk club session. The bloke next to me says "Have you heard - they've shot Kennnedy and the Vice-President".

The rest of the evening was weird. All songs about Presidents and other people getting shot, and American students being very intense and shaken. They really minded. I don't think there's been a President since that would get that kind of reaction in a bunch of students.

I reckon the "Summer of Love" lasted from 67 or to 69 and a bit. I mean, who was counting?

I was at Woodstock, and it was definitely summer anyway.

I think that the term "Summer of Love" was usually used to refer to the summer when the Haight-Ashbury section of San Francisco was the "groovy" place to be, and I think that was 1967. Woodstock was 1969.
