Concerning Sunday Morning--

Like all of Stevens' poetry, I find this one easier to understand in a sort of emotional fugue state than in analytical concentration. It's one of my favorites, in any case.

What a Sunday morning is varies from person to person, but I think I share enough of Stevens' contexts to *imagine* a Sunday morning dedicated to devotions of a wholly other sort.

"Complacencies of the peignoir" indeed!

about this poem...good question. I love Wallace Stevens, and must admit I do not always understand what the poems are "about." I don't know if the poet did either! He seemed very interested in poetry which used language in an innovative and unusual way...but certainly some of his poems have specific themes and ideas going on... is Sunday morning the one with all the repeating, mutating passages involving the color of the waves etc.?

I like: The Plot Against the Giant

The Snowman

The Emperor of Ice Cream

The Men Who are Falling

Mary, Although I strongly recommend joining, I have to disasgree that nothing bad happens to people who join. For one thing, every time I laugh my ass off while rolling on the floor (LMAOWROTF), I have to eat all sorts of junk food to grow it back. And the skin irritation from all the pants wetting opportunities (PWO) is very hard to eliminate.

Then there are all the songs running through my head. It isn't spam, but I've begun to worry I won't live long enough to sing every song in the DigiTrad.

Cody-Are you Cody from "no-more-songs"? Welcome. I'm glad you came over. If you like it here, invite some more NMS listies.

There's a lot here, make yourself at home, explore all the nooks and crannies. There are zillions of song lyrics up on the DT, and helpful people knowledgeable about every kind of folk music. If you want info, make your thread titles as specific as you can. When you're a member, you can also send and receive personal messages to/from other members. And I promise nothing bad will happen-you won't get any spam or anything.

Ah, WXPN's World Cafe has just put on Phil's "Changes"... One of his best... I hope you enjoy yourself here.

I don't know that one, but he always sees to be about several things at once.

Do you like folk music? What brought you to the Mudcat?

Do you know the Midbnioght Special on WFMT radio, Chicago? It is a weekly folk show that used to also include poetry, old radio sketches, etc.

Not sure you'll find a lot of poetry here, except the song lyrics, but many poets.

Hope you'll stick around!! I recommend joining-- just did recently. Good people here, and sense of humor that will leave you gasping. Someone is bound to post a joke in this thread before too long, eventually all threads lead to jokes!

Hello, if anyone here is well read in American poetry, and familiar with Sunday Morning by Wallace Stevens, what do you think it is about? Thanks. Cody
