Haven't been to New Zealand myself, but there is a longtime family friend connection. During WWII, my father, who was a U.S. Navy SeaBee in the South Pacific, befriended a New Zealander named Bruce Mason. Bruce went on to become a successful playwright, and the Mason family and ours kept up a friendship for many years. My parents visited NZ about two years before Bruce tragically succumbed to cancer.

You seem to have droped off around the time I discovered HearMe in late July.

I'd looked in more off than on for three or four years but hearme changed that, I can't keep away from it

I'd like to catch up with you and any other kiwis that frequent these columns

Billy, there used to be a VERY nice, knowlegable guy called Pete M. that posted regularly, but he has not been seen in awhile...a search on his name will get you some threads, and maybe some other names....

Yes, I made it down to Stewart Island, for one day about six years ago.
We had a Mudcatter called 'Kiwi', but I haven't read from her for about 2 years.

The Marmite thread brought out lots of Kiwis. When I was at a folk festival on Vancouver Island in 1990 I met a singer from Auckland named Dick Coker. We traded tapes and I kept meaning to go visit but never did. Now that I'm nearly halfway there, perhaps I'll get down to NZ some day. It's definitely on my list.

Are there any other Kiwi Folk out there who haunt Mudcat Cafe on a regular basis?

Conversely, any Mudcatters who have been to New Zealand, and made it as far south as Stewart Island?
