I was hoping to post this earlier, but I have been unable to find the information I was looking for.
My sister Susan opened at Greenbank for Swing Soniq, a Winnipeg based "Gypsy" Jazz band. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, but she loaned me the CD. These guys are awesome. Led by former Guess Who guitarist Greg Leskiw, they play thirties and forties style Jazz. Greg is a wonderful singer who has elements of Louis Armstrong and Dr. John in his singin. He is also a fine Rhthym guitar player. The band is three piece, a lead guitar player heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt and a stand up bass, both bowed and fingered. The CD liner notes say nothing about how to order the CD, they don't seem to have a website, but if they come to your town, go see them, acoustic music at it's finest.
I am going to get Susans copy of their CD to Rick Fielding the next time I venture into Hogtown. I know he'll love it and probably play a track or two on acoustic workshop.
