Subject: Lyr Add: VAN DIEMEN'S LAND From: Alan of Australia Date: 06 May 00 - 01:36 AM G'day, There's a version in the DT, Click here. And here's another version which might be closer to the Christy Moore version:-
VAN DIEMEN'S LAND
Me and three more went out one night
Young men all be aware lest you be drawn into a snare
About the fifth of March me boys
The ship that bore us from the shore
About the fifth of August
To see our fellow sufferers
They took me down to Sydney town
There was a female servant
Come all you wild and reckless youths
Cheers, |
Subject: young men all, be aware From: GUEST,Matt S. Date: 05 May 00 - 01:56 PM I have most of this song from a Christy Moore recording, but there are a few bits that I know I have wrong. Me and 3 more went out one night into Squire Noble's park. We thought that we might get some game, the night being proven dark. It being our bad misfortune, the--------- -------------------------------------------????? He sent us down to the jail, did cause our hearts to bleed, young men all be aware.... About the 5th of March me boys at the bar we did appear, Like Jove we stood with patience our sentences to hear, There being -------------------???????? (Old podger standing?) Our case it did go hard, Our sentence was for 14 years, straightway being sent on board, young men all... Anyone know those missing bits? |
