Thanks for this one. Nice song.

Only thing is, it makes me feel uneasy. Just like all those sickly-sweet Victorian songs which seem to be saying we don't need to bother doing anything 'cos God will make it all right in the end.

Maybe the antidote's in this poem, written 1903 so not quite Victorian, which all the schoolchildren of my father's generation seemed to have had to learn by heart as part of their education.

In the Workhouse: Christmas Day (George R. Sims)

I've got nothing at all against casual charity, but hadn't we all better order our world a little better.

Perhaps this isn't the place for this sort of comment. Sorry if not.

IanC

Oh, it's a sweet one. I think I'll post it.

The Chain of Love
Clay Walker
CD: Live, Laugh, Love

Verse 1:

  D
He was driving home one evening, In his beat up Pontiac

When an old lady flagged him down, Her Mercedes had a flat
A
He could see that she was frightened, Standing out there in the snow

D
'Til he said I'm here to help you ma'am, By the way my name is Joe

Verse 2:

D
She said I'm from St. Louis, And I'm only passing through

I must have seen a hundred cars go by, This is awful nice of you
A
When he changed the tire, And closed her trunk

And was about to drive away, She said how much do I owe you
D
Here's what he had to say

Chorus:

G D
You don't owe me a thing, I've been there too
A D
Someone once helped me out, Just the way I'm helping you
G D G
If you really want to pay me back, Here's what you do
D A D
Don't let the chain of love end with you

Verse 3: (same chords as verses 1 and 2)

Well a few miles down the road, The lady saw a small cafe
She went in to grab a bite to eat, And then be on her way
But she couldn't help but notice, How the waitress smiled so sweet
And how she must've been eight months along, And dead on her feet

Verse 4: (same chords as other verses)

And though she didn't know her story, And she probably never will
When the waitress went to get her change, From a hundred dollar bill
The lady slipped right out the door, And on a napkin left a note
There were tears in the waitress's eyes, When she read what she wrote

Repeat chorus

Verse 5: (same chords as other verses)

That night when she got home from work, The waitress climbed into bed
She was thinkin' about the money, And what the lady's note had said
As her husband lay there sleeping, She whispered soft and low
Everything's gonna be alright, I love you, Joe

Hi, Fulurum - I could hope you'll use a more specific thread title next time. I think I found your song, though - Chain of Love (click)
