Subject: RE: Chords: A modest proposal From: just an suggestion Date: 02 Jul 97 - 07:00 PM when people ask for 'the chords', they are often trying to replicate a particular 'arrangement'...and, as Max says, this begins to approach published, copywrited material. If someone really needs help with weird chords for some difficult song, I suggest they ask and receive help by private email so as not to call attention to this site... |

Subject: 3 notes on chords From: Max D. Spiegel Date: 02 Jul 97 - 04:35 PM 1. Most folkies prefer to figure songs out my listening to them. 2. We used to have hundreds of chords, but people could not deal with the many variations among songs and we were inundated with corrections. It was a nightmare of maintenance. 3. Chords are copyright hell. The reason you never see all these things together is because you'll get sued.

Subject: RE: Chords: A modest proposal From: Mountain Dog Date: 02 Jul 97 - 04:22 PM Dear Bo, I strongly second your motion. As a certified muddler with a pretty good ear, I can usually muddle through a tune, but it is nice to have a starting place from whence to muddle ahead. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Subject: Chords: A modest proposal From: Bo Date: 02 Jul 97 - 02:07 PM I have seen a lot of music sites that seem to fall into two categories: they have chords but no words or vice versa. I realise many of the people who want chords have a good idea of the words and some people dont trust found chords with their lyrics but why dont people combine them more? I know that most ansi chord notation is cumbersome but speaking as someone trying to learn guitar it would be great if there were chords with more songs. I guess I'm speaking more to those people who post chords, many of the lyric posters dont play an instrument to know chords, please trust yourself to post chords you are happy with along with all the words. That way if there is a chord change later in the song you dont miss it and it is much easier to collect these songs (IMHO). If you dont trust a set of chords people can always delete them from their download or just use them as a starting point for discoverring how the music sounds to them. bo |
