Subject: RE: BS: North Carolina, beaches, August - Music? From: Mbo Date: 24 Jun 00 - 09:14 AM New Bern, which is about an hour away from Jacksonville, has Irish music sessions on I think, Saturday nights...I'd have to check. My friend Sharon from Scotland (a clairseach player) and her husband (a fiddler) often attend. I can ask her about folk music, I know she knows some traditional Irish music players down near Wilmington...they might be doing a session or concert sometime close to our meeting date. Let me ask her! --Mbo |

A whole bunch of my family lived in Greenville for a while (one nephew and one niece ECU grads) and another sister lived in Wilmington for a few years. Sure wouldn't trade my cool mountains and lots of music for where you are. Go west, young man! Me? I'm headed south Saturday morning. Be in Asheville by nightfall. See ya'll, david |

Subject: RE: BS: North Carolina, beaches, August - Music? From: ddw Date: 23 Jun 00 - 12:34 AM Mrrzy, Mbo's right — eastern NC isn't a mecca of folk music, but if you swing west on I-40 to Asheville, you'll go nuts trying to figure out who you want to hear most nights. Of course, it's about 400 miles from the coast to Asheville, but it's a beautiful drive. The other thing to keep in mind about ENC in August is that you're likely to need Scuba gear just to walk around. Hot, muggy — awful. Don't know the length of or reason for you trip, but if you'd like more info on Western NC, try this clicky cheers, david |

Subject: RE: BS: North Carolina, beaches, August - Music? From: Mbo Date: 22 Jun 00 - 02:35 PM Yeah, looked it up, Mrrz. It's Wilmington-area Alternative, punk, and hardcore music. Hey, I told you eastern Carolina was lacking in folk music! |

Subject: RE: BS: North Carolina, beaches, August - Music? From: Mbo Date: 22 Jun 00 - 02:30 PM I'm not sure, Mrrz, let me look. But I CAN tell you that Wilmington is really big on punk bands, which isn't necessarily a bad thing... --Mbo |

Subject: North Carolina, beaches, August - Music? From: Mrrzy Date: 22 Jun 00 - 02:28 PM I'm going to be vacationing in SouthEastern NC this summer, August (roughly) 12-20. Am already planning on meeting up with Mbo, anyone else going to be around? Also, does anyone know anything about something called Beat Week 2000 (A celebration of Wilmington area music), going on Aug 13-17? There is a contact name, Mike Raab, but I wanted to ask y'all before getting the official spiel... |
