Subject: RE: Not a bad weekend From: Rex Date: 19 Jul 00 - 11:35 AM Nope, I drove right by it. But I get in there now and then. There was a big show in Denver awhile back and Timothy P. and RR3 were the entertainment and so was I though I don't think they knew that. They had lots of instruments and plenty of loose electrons flying through amplifiers. Me, I was in one corner of the place and all I had was a fiddle and a banjo. Rex |

Subject: Not a bad weekend From: GUEST,Rex, playing at the work computer Date: 18 Jul 00 - 08:44 AM I was at a small Mtn. man rendesvous this weekend. My elder son and I set up a camp and had plenty of furs and dead animal parts. I mostly played tunes on the fiddle and fired double charges through the muzzle loader. Later we caught up with my wife and younger son and went to an outdoor concert consisting of four brass bands: The Colorado Honors Youth Band, an outstanding bunch of kids that played a lively flawless performance. The Denver Concert Band, they played some favorite pieces. Then there was the 4th Artillary Band, I could listen to these guys all day. They played on original Civil War instruments, started out with Hail Columbia and played several marching tunes. The final group was the Denver Municipal Band. These guys are the oldest continous playing professional band in the country. They ended with the 1812 Overture accompanied by 16 cannons firing over the lake to the music. Afterward the artillary reloaded and fired from right to left. Then they reloaded again and fired all 16 at once. Ah, black powder. Afterward, my family headed home and I went up to a party above Evergreen and played tunes there until the wee hours of the morning. A few hours sleep and up again Sunday morning to the Conifer Centennial. They wanted mtn. men so its on with the buckskins and I played there for awhile. Then back home for a quick change and down to Larkspur to entertain at the Renaissance Festival. Quite a circus there playing for all the dancers. It was a battle to see who could hold out longest, the musicians or the dancers. The musicians prevailed. Now I'm just waiting for some more tunes. Rex |
